Chatty GRWM || Daytime Wedding Makeup (+ Where I've Been)

Hey all! I'm not going to apologize or explain my absence here because a) no one reads descriptions, and b) I explain in the video!

This GRWM is just me getting ready for a daytime wedding, using neutral, pretty, shimmery colours on the eyes, paired with bright pink lips. Inoffensive, but pretty, easy, and would look great on lots of people. Enjoy!

Chatty GRWM || So Ready For Spring! || Metallic Champagne Eyes & Pink Lips

Today's video is a bit of a chatty GRWM featuring a pretty, neutral metallic spring appropriate makeup look that would be great for really anywhere, be that school, work, or everyday. I also just wanted to play around with some of my favourite things and do a really casual video because I hadn't got a chance to film in a couple weeks because I had pinkeye and wasn't able to wear makeup! >_< I hope you like this video and this look, be sure to let me know if you have any suggestions for future looks!

PR Haul || Pixi Beauty Canadian Launch Event Goodies

Hey guys! If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already saw the pictures I posted from the recent Pixi Beauty event here in Vancouver last week, where a bunch of Vancouver bloggers were invited to celebrate their launch at Shopper's Drugmart locations across Canada. Yep, that's right, Pixi is back in Canada, and surely much better stocked than it was at Target in that brief shining moment we were allowed our Target stores!

Anyways, as usual at these events, we were given bags full of goodies from the brand to take home and test out, so I thought I would share with you everything I got to try so you can ask for specific reviews of anything you're particularly interested in, and also so you can see some of the products that have already been included in my most recent makeup video.

Pixi PR haul

I'm going to start with the makeup, because honestly that's always what interests me the most, but I did also receive plenty of nice skincare goodies, which will be featured below, and everything will have retail prices listed as well, for anyone curious. Where I've tried things, I'll try to pop in some early first impressions, but I do intend to do a larger review of these products in the future, so I'll save most of my thoughts for that post. So be sure to look forward to that!

The Makeup

Flawless & Poreless Primer — $30

Flawless and Poreless Primer

Meant to smooth fine lines, disappear pores, and hydrate. My first use, I found it really comfortable, thick and hydrating, but easily blendable into the skin without feeling oily, greasy, or slippery (like silicone-y products). I like it so far, but am not sure if it really makes my foundation last or look better yet.

Flawless and Poreless Primer Swatch

Lash Booster Mascara — $20

Lash Booster Mascara

Curls, defines, lengthens, and thickens. Does it all, AND it's waterproof!! So far I have really liked this mascara. One coat is nice and natural and very black, and two or three coats adds tons of volume. Also, it does seem to last really well, and I didn't notice any flaking. The dense little brush is surprisingly good at defining the lashes.

Lash Booster Mascara Brush

Black Lacquer Lash Primer — $20

Lash Primer

Plumps, preps, and protects lashes for your favourite mascara, or can be worn on it's own. The brush, or comb really, on this one is kind of weird. It's spiky on the concave and convex edges of the brush, but then there are two flat sides without teeth or bristles. The product can really collect here, and you can get tons of product on your lashes this way which really builds up a spiky, intense look that probably isn't most people's idea of a good look. Still, with a lighter hand, and care to use the toothed sides, not the flat edges, it does add an impressive amount of length, and is great under another mascara, especially one with a good defining brush.

Lash Primer Brush

Large Lash Mascara in Brown — $22

Large Lash Mascara

This mascara has a big bold brush that really works to volumize lashes. This isn't waterproof, but does claim to be smudge proof, and it did hold up surprisingly well when I went for a long walk the other day (playing Pokemon Go at the park... don't judge me!), though it did start to dissolve when the cool wind started my eyes tearing up, so I wouldn't wear this to anything that might be emotional! The colour is really nice, though; its a deep, dark rich brown that looks more natural than black on my golden lashes, but still adds some darkness, depth, and definition, so it's great for a more natural look. I'd actually love to try the Lash Booster in this shade!

Large Lash Mascara Brush

Endless Brow Gel Pen in Medium — $11 USD (wasn't on my PR sheet! =S)

brow pencil

This pencil is meant to take the place of your pencil and brow gel in one step. It goes on ridiculously creamy and then sets itself into place, so I guess that is hypothetically possible. However, so far I've found it's much easier to over-do this product than it is to get the right amount in your brows. Maybe that's because I have to fill and reshape my thin, wimpy brows, but for me, it just isn't quite right. I like a firmer pencil that doesn't cake up as easily as this one does. It also needs to be resharpened more frequently because it goes down much quicker! That said, I have gotten some pretty, and fairly natural, hair-like looking brows with this pencil, so I'm going to keep trying it, but I do like to go over it with a brow gel to help set and break up some of the cakiness.

Brow Pencil swatch

Book of Beauty Contour Creator — $34

Contour Book

They have several of these Book of Beauty palettes for different types of makeup, but I got to test out the contour palette. It has three bronzers or contour shades, and I guess you could call the other three highlighters, but one is a beatiful matte white, one is a slightly banana-like matte shade, and the other is a pale, sheer, shimmery pink that on me works as a beautiful soft blush, but could be a pretty pinktone highlighter on darker skintones.

contour book swatches

The swatch of the white shade looks slightly chalky, but it blends beautifully on my pale skin and makes a beautiful matte highlight on my cheekbones, browbone, and inner corners! I like the yellow shade under the eyes, and the pinky blush shade is gorgeous. As for the bronzers, my favourite is actually the deepest one, which can be used with a light hand and blends easily into even my pale skin for a natural contour. It's a good cool tone, and doesn't go orange on me and I love it! The one under the white is also a good cool tone for a more subtle, natural highlight, or could be a good bronzer as well. For me at least, that middle shade is a touch too orange for contouring, but is still soft and blendable enough to make a good bronzer; it's very similar to the Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil.

Mattelustre Lipstick in Rose Naturelle — $16

Lipstick Opened

This is supposed to be a full coverage lipstick with a plumping effect. I'm not sure I've personally noticed any plumping, there's certainly no sting or tingle. Also, this colour is pretty sheer, in my opinion, though it is a pretty close shade to my natural lips, so maybe it only appears sheer? As you can see from the swatch below, on my hand it looks like a warm, natural rose colour, as the name aptly suggests, and I think the colour would be flattering on many skintones, though it isn't a favourite shade for me. I love the smooth, comfortable finish on these lipsticks, though, and I'd love to give a brighter or deeper colour a shot!

The Skincare

Peel & Polish — $34

Peel and Polish

This is an enzyme peel that promises to resurface for smoother, softer skin and a healthy glow. You pop it all over your face, leave it like a little mask for 5 minutes, then rinse it off. If you want a little more exfoliation, you can also massage it into the skin before rinsing, since there's the faintest bit of texture to this product. I haven't tried it out on myself yet, but it smells fantastic! It's all fresh and cucumber-y, and so good!

Glow Tonic — 100 ml $20 || 250 ml $38

Personalised Glow Tonic

Ah, Glow Tonic, an obsessive cult favourite of many bloggers and youtubers across the internet. This is an exfoliating, alcohol-free toner that promises smoother, brighter, clearer skin. It sounds like it should be harsh, but it's surprisingly gentle! So far I'm not sure I'm head over heels in love with this stuff, but it is a pretty nice product as far as toners go, and I will definitely keep trying it to see if it's really as good as everyone says. As you can see, this one is personalized for me with my name in pretty calligraphy on the label, since they were personalizing bottles for everyone, which is a super cute touch. I also grabbed one of the adorable mini bottles below, because they were just too mini to pass up!

Glow Tonic Mini

By the way, these are not scent-free. They do contain perfumes, which is slightly disappointing, but at the same time, the smell doesn't seem to bother my sometimes sensitive nose. Even sick as I am now, the smell seems alright, kinda powdery, maybe? Let me know if you have a better idea of how to describe the smell of this stuff!

Hydrating Milky Mist — $20

Hydrating Milky Mist

This is a hydrating mist full of "skin-soothers" and would be great for dry skin. The bottle suggests using it as your first layer of hydration in your skincare, or any time to freshen up and add moisture to your skin. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I love moisturizing mists like this, especially used as the LAST step in my routine. It just feels so refreshing! And maybe also because I've trained myself that my makeup feels complete and finished when I spritz on a setting spray, so finishing my skincare with a spray also just feels like the cherry on top? This mist contains Hyaluronic Acid, so it really locks in moisture. The scent is fresh and a little perfumey, to me, but still light enough that it doesn't bug me. Also, the spray head on these Pixi mists is great, and spread a light, airy mist over your skin, instead of spurting droplets on your face.

Vitamin Wake Up Mist — $20

Vitamin Wakeup Mist

This is a toner mist that is meant to wake up and revitalize your skin, and contains citrus fruit extracts, lavender, and arginine. The bottle recommends using before moisturizer as a toner, after makeup to set and add hydration, or anytime to wake your skin up. This is one awesome, it smells so good! I love orange and citrus scents, and this one is great. It's light and refreshing and a definite pick-me-up!

24K Eye Elixir — $28

Eye Elixir

This is an anti-fatigue peptide serum to massage puffiness away, smooth, and refresh your eye area. It has a metal roller ball, so it glides over your undereyes cold and (I guess) refreshing. I've never been a huge fan of cold rollerballs on my eyes, but if that's your jam, maybe this is for you! It's cooling, and I do like that it is thin and absorbs quickly, instead of being weirdly thick or sticky like some other eye rollers I've tried. I don't know if it has any effects yet, but I usually feel like these types of products are more for how they make you feel than how they actually work. Oh, and as the name suggests, it does include gold for stimulating circulation, apparently?

Eye Roller Gel

Rose Oil Blend — $34

Rose Oil Blend

This is an oil meant to rejuvenate, restore, and renew skin's luminosity. I have not yet tested it myself because I still live at home and my mom is pretty allergic to roses and rose related things... so I haven't had a chance. I'm planning to take it to my boyfriend's house and maybe give it a go there. It does have a pretty nice scent for a rose product, though. I did inherit a little of my mom's sensitivity, but when I'm healthy I can stand better quality rose products, and this one seems to be gentle enough I could use it. This blend also contains jojoba and sweet almond oil, so I have no doubt it will be a great deep moisturizer when I get a chance to use it!

Nourishing Sleep Mask — $30

Nourishing Sleep Mask

This is an intensive youth-preserving mask that deeply hydrates overnight. It's really hydrating, and it only meant to be used a couple of times a week. Also, I love it! It's probably one of my favourite things that I got to try out. It smells great, with the lavender and bergamot oils. It also had other great ingredients like jojoba, macadamia oil, and caffeine. But for as hydrating as it is, it isn't too thick or heavy on the skin, which is a huge plus for me! I can't stand when a cream feels weighty on my skin! It is actually more of a lotion consistency than a cream, and absorbs beautifully, with a little product going a long way.

***

Final Thoughts

There are so many great products for Pixi, I can't believe I'd never tried any of them before now, but I'm glad they're now available at Shoppers Drug Mart for all us Canadians! I think I figured the Glow Tonic was so hyped up that nothing from the brand could be worth is, and aside from that, I'm not a huge fan of the soft green packaging, but what is housed in that packaging is pretty awesome.

If I had to pick favourite right now, I'd have to go with the Nourishing Sleep Mask, the Vitamin Wakeup Mist, and the Book of Beauty Contour Creator, but that may change or be added to as I give all the products a better test. I hope to come back to these things in a couple of weeks to give you some better reviews. I'm unsure yet if I'll break them up, or do a review dump in the same style of this post. Let me know if you have opinions, or if theres anything you'd like a really in depth review on, and I'll see what I can do. And don't forget to let me know what your favourite Pixi products are, if you've tried any!

The second will be up on Monday and will be a much lighter, fun and girly look using the same palette and a bright pink lip, so make sure to check back for that!

GRWM || Smokey Duochrome Eyes + Vampy Lips

Hey guys! Here's a deep, vampy look for you guys today. I'm sorry the duochrome in the eyeshadow I use doesn't pop right on my eyes on camera, but I swear it looked cool in real life!

Also, I was planning to record a voiceover for this video, but it turned out quite short so I didn't feel it was necessary. I put in some titles for anything I did want to point out, but otherwise, I hope you enjoy this as a GRWM. Let me know if you want to see me do more voiceovers, though!

As always, if you have similar colours from other brands, you do not need the ones I use here, but all the same, the products I used will be listed in the video's description.

GRWM || Rusty Matte Eyes & Pink Lips

Hi Guys! Just a wearable rusty matte eye look with bright pink lips. I wasn't sure the lips were going to go at first, but I really like how it ended up looking. As always if you think my eye and lip pairings are weird or too bold, do your own thing! =)

Maybe I shouldn't apologize, but I'm sorry anyways for the irregular uploads recently. I'm trying to get back in top of things, but things seem to keep coming up or getting in the way. Hopefully the rest of the year and into 2017 will be more normalised! Thanks so much to anyone who's subscribed and watches my videos!

Tutorial || Christmas-y Makeup || Silver-y Eyes & Dark Red Lips

Today's video is a Christmas makeup tutorial... but not your average gold eye and red lip look that I've done before and that just about everyone seems to gravitate towards for this season.

Instead I wanted to give you an alternative you could do that still looks festive, party-like, and sparkly. Don't get me wrong, I love a good gold eye & red lip look, and I'll link a couple of those looks I've done below, but sometimes being different is nice!

GRWM || Soft, Romantic Anniversary Date Makeup

Here's a quick GRWM to show you the makeup I wore for my anniversary day with David a few days ago! I really like how it turned out. Also, I did use the Gwen Stefani palette, but the colours I used were pretty basic, so I think this would be easily replicable.

I went bright on the main part of the lid, and just a little smokey on the outside corner so that the winged liner would stand out, and obviously I paired it with a bright purple lip, which David picked out for the day =P

Sorry my videos are falling behind lately. I've been low on ideas for a little while, which is why all my recent videos have been makeup looks. Hope you don't mind too much. Feel free to request reviews, tags, top 5's, or anything else you'd like to see! I'd love the input.

30-Day Lipstick Challenge || Update #4 ||The Final Week

I successfully finished the challenge, and I'm back to show you the final week's worth of lipsticks and share my reviews! If you haven't been keeping up with this challenge either here or on Instagram, you might want to check out the first 3 posts to see the other lipsticks I included in this challenge:

  1. Week 1 — Lipsticks 1-10
  2. Week 2 — Lipsticks 11-16
  3. Week 3 — Lipsticks 17-23

And don't forget to follow me on Instagram!

But now, let's get into the lipsticks!

24. Revlon Ultra HD Liquid Lipstick in HD Obsession

This lipstick is pretty good, but I don't think I'd recommend it over many others I own. The colour is great, but not unique (it is one of my favourite tones, and you probably have noticed I have several in a very similar shade!). It smells really nice, but while I like a good smelling lipstick, that's never going to be enough to make me pick it. The formula is nice, but it stays smudge-y like a regular lipstick, and doesn't seem to dry even as much as the NYX Liquid Suedes on me, and never fully achieves a matte finish. But I mean, its nice and I'll keep wearing it. *shrugs*

25. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw

Something about my lighting in this picture makes it look like it leans a little more pink than it looks in real life, though I do think it has a bit of a blue base to it. It's a gorgeous bright red that I think looks fantastic against my fair skin, but would also work on a range of other skin tones. The KVD Liquid lipsticks are phenomenal, as well (hence why the two I own got left until the last week); they dry down completely and feel really weightless. I don't feel like they suck moisture out of my lips, but they are certainly not moisturising! The dry, but non-flaky texture of this lipstick once dried is so good and so long-wearing that I want to buy a ton more shades, and KVD has some great, unique vampy and bright colours to choose from!

26. Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Punked Matte

I LOVE this colour! I hunted it down after it sold out days after I first tired it instore. No Sephoras were restocking it and I was desperate to get my hands on this super unique shade, since I couldn't find anything like it from any other brands at the time either! It's a really neutral gray tone, though it can tend to look a little brown or pink/purple based in some lighting, or if my natural lipshade starts to show through. It can be a little thin and translucent, but can build up to an opaque gray lipstick. The formula, like I described in the Magenta Matte shade, is great, thin, silky, and comfortable, never drying. It smells faintly of vanilla sugar, but not sickly.

27. NYX Liquid Suede lipstick in Brooklyn Thorn

This is another super weird, unique, beautiful shade! I didn't like it much the first time I tried it, since it's a strange brown/gray colour (which my sister recently described as "Olive-y, like the colour of the inside of a Kalamata olive."). But maybe Punked Matte helped to normalize greys for me, because now I love this shade as well. In the pictures they look pretty similar, but I swear this is more brown and warm, and Punked is more neutral muted grey. I had talked at length about how I like the formula of these Liquid Suedes, so I won't go into it too much. Check out the other ones included in this challenge, or my somewhat recent NYX Liquid Suede review and swatch post!

28. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in L.U.V.

This gorgeous bright purple shade is so stunning! I almost once bought this colour twice (in two different brands and formulas) in the same trip to Sephora because I love it so much! The other was Too Faced Melted Violet, which is shockingly similar, but a little less matte and long-lasting, since it takes much longer to dry down. In the end I went with the KVD, and I regret nothing! It's bright, purple, warm, and so pretty. And I already ranted earlier about how much I love the KVD Everlasting Liquid lipstick formula!

29. Colourpop Lippie Stix in Bunny

I know I've featured this lipstick before in reviews, swatches, and costume makeups, but it's so damn pretty and unique! Much of the internet beauty community will agree that the Colourpop lippie stix are fantastic quality, strange and amazing colours, and super affordable, and this colour is no different! I bought it because I loved the swatches, even though I thought I'd never have the courage to wear it out of the house, and promised I'd make it work one day... and I actually have found more uses for it than some may expect! St. Patrick's and Halloween, of course, are the easiest excuses for super shimmery green lips. An usually I wouldn't like such a glittery lipstick, but it just looks so shiny and stunning, almost metallic, and it isn't gritty or rough like many other glitter lipsticks. I would definitely recommend this is you have any reason to wear a green lippie!

30. MAC Satin Lipstick in Cyber

Last, but not least, we have one of MAC's most beautiful vampy lipsticks. Usually I pair this with MAC Nightmoth lipliner, since the Satin formula from MAC has a tendency to feather on my lips, but the colour is still amazing! Deep, but not black toned, it almost has a warm brown undertone. Honestly, if I blend it into my skin, it makes a fairly convincing purple bruise colour, but at full impact on my lips, it looks great and I've got so many compliments on it! Again, same great scent as all the MAC lippies, and being a satin the lasting power could be better, but it is pretty damn opaque and pigmented, and isn't hard to touch up... just make sure to carry a matching or clear lip liner to make sure the edges stay sharp, you don't want this dark purple smudging around your lip line!!

Also, as I said in that pic's description, I'm not sure why, but my camera is seeing way more texture in the colour and on my lips than I could see... It looked fine in person, even though my lips were a little dry, but the camera makes it look sunk into every possible crevice and line in my lips!

***

So that's it! I had a lot of fun doing this challenge, since it made sure that I went through and played with lipsticks I don't necessarily reach for all the time because I have a few favourites I tend to circulate through the majority of the time. That said, i also missed having the ability to wear grey lips every day for a week if I wanted to! =D I would definitely think about doing this again with different lipsticks, maybe in the spring or summer, so let me know if you enjoyed these posts and want to see another round!

Finally, let me know what lipsticks or shades you've been favouring lately!

Thanks for reading!

Tutorial || Cranberry Eyes & Neutral Lips || Alternative Christmas Party Makeup?

So today's tutorial is a bright cranberry eye and grey lips. Obviously you can switch to a nude lip if you aren't that type of adventurous, but I like the pairing. Considering the pretty red-toned eye shadow, I thought this could make a pretty, affordable eye look for upcoming Christmas parties (I know, it seems early, but some work Christmas parties happen crazy early!) Hope you enjoy!

30-Day Lipstick Challenge || Update #3 || Third Week

And I'm back with another week of lipsticks! If you haven't been following along up until now, I've been wearing a different lipstick from my collection everyday since October 3, posting on my instagram, and sharing my mini reviews on each lipstick at the end of the week!

If you haven't seen them yet, don't forget to check out what lipsticks I wore in the last week (#11-16) and the week before (#1-10)!

Anyways, on to the lipsticks!

17. MAC Lipstick in Saint Germain

As I said in the description for this picture: "An incredibly bright, neon baby/Barbie pink. So weird, and so hard to photograph. It's not been a favourite in recent months, but it's so unique I'm still glad I have it." This colour is pretty ridiculous, and you really need to tone down any other makeup surrounding it, because it's so loud, but it can be fun, especially in the summer. As an amplified formula lipstick, the lasting power is pretty excellent for a regular lipstick, and as all MAC lipsticks do, it smells amazing.

18.Urban Decay Revolutions lipstick in F-Bomb

I know the Revolutions lipsticks aren't really a thing anymore, but I still have them and want to wear them. This one is a mini I think I got as a point perk from Sephora, and it's a simple, true red colour, with a surprising amount of shine, considering the opacity and lasting power on this lipstick! I don't know why in the world they reformulated, since these lipsticks were so great and so comfortable... Oh well.

19. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Addis Ababa

I've already told you how much I love this formula (last week, I think), and this was my introduction to the range. This is a great, slightly blue-toned pink, lasts forever, and it's definitely a go-to lipstick for me! If you've never tried these lippies, you really should get one and give it a go!

20. Too Faced Melted Liquefied Lipstick in Melted Jelly Donut

Another great formula! I own 4 of these lipsticks, but Jelly Donut was my first full-size, the other three were minis either from points or sets, but I love this formula and wanted to finally give Too Faced some money for it! These go on fairly opaque and pretty glossy, but dry down over the next little while to a really great matte finish. Long-lasting, not drying, and really end up feeling like nothing on your lips... I constantly forget I'm wearing lipstick when I wear these. This shade is a gorgeous, somewhat muted bright pink, if that makes sense. Melted Fuchsia is a neon bright pink, but Jelly Donut has a bit more deepness, and maybe a bit more blue. I think it would be a beautiful, wearable colour on most people, even those usually uncomfortable in a bold lip.

21. NARS Velvet Matte Lipstick in Cruella

This was from the lip pencil duo offered as the (I think) 2015 Sephora Beauty Insider birthday gift. It's a deep, matte, pigmented, opaque red shade and it's absolutely gorgeous. The lipstick itself feels a tiny bit heavy, but it lasts well, and the shade is beautiful. There's a touch of a rust-tone to it, which makes it pretty unique (at least in my collection) and blood-like.

22. NYX Liquid Suede lipstick in Cherry Skies

Another lipstick I would call blood-red, but this one is much deeper and darker than Nars Cruella. Where Cruella is more the colour of fresh blood, Cherry Skies is a dark, dry blood-red. Or the colour of a cherry stain! It does have a touch of that purple tone of cherry juice, especially if sheered out or smudged, but the full-impact colour is deep, vampy red. And I love it. I'm so glad I purchased this at IMATS because it is one of my favourite colours from the Liquid Suede line!

23. Smashbox lipstick in Magenta Matte

Finally, we have Smashbox Magenta Matte. I got this lipstick—full-seized!—in last year's Give Me More Lip set (which doesn't look like will be out again this year?). These Smashbox matte lipsticks are so so comfortable! They feel thin and silky on the lips, instead of chalky or drying, and they can easily be worn sheerly or built up to opacity. I also love this colour, somewhat similar to Candy Yum-Yum, which is another bright, blue-based pink, but a bit paler, and probably a bit less neon. I love it, and it really has put the Smashbox lipstick formula on my radar (well, this and Punked Matte, but that will be coming in next week's post!).

***

So that's all for this week's lipstick round-up, only 7 more lipsticks to go until I'm done! I hope you haven't minded some of the lipsticks being shown against my bare skin, but I just don't wear full makeup everyday, and I won't do a full-face of foundation just for a lipstick picture! Also, any editing I've done to these picture on IG has been to try to more accurately show the colour, in cases of weird or poor lighting conditions.

I hope you've been enjoying this challenge! Let me know what some of your lipsticks were, or if I've inspired you to try out any of the ones I've featured so far. xD

GRWM || Neutral eyes & Red lip || ft. Makeup Revolution Flawless 2 palette

In case my last few Halloween videos haven't interested you, here's a good normal, everyday makeup look featuring the Makeup Revolution Flawless 2 palette, which I had never used before. It is a pretty great palette full of tons of great neutral colours, shimmery and matte. This could be a great drugstore alternative to expensive, high end neutral palettes.
