Tutorial || Cranberry Eyes & Neutral Lips || Alternative Christmas Party Makeup?

So today's tutorial is a bright cranberry eye and grey lips. Obviously you can switch to a nude lip if you aren't that type of adventurous, but I like the pairing. Considering the pretty red-toned eye shadow, I thought this could make a pretty, affordable eye look for upcoming Christmas parties (I know, it seems early, but some work Christmas parties happen crazy early!) Hope you enjoy!

30-Day Lipstick Challenge || Update #3 || Third Week

And I'm back with another week of lipsticks! If you haven't been following along up until now, I've been wearing a different lipstick from my collection everyday since October 3, posting on my instagram, and sharing my mini reviews on each lipstick at the end of the week!

If you haven't seen them yet, don't forget to check out what lipsticks I wore in the last week (#11-16) and the week before (#1-10)!

Anyways, on to the lipsticks!

17. MAC Lipstick in Saint Germain

As I said in the description for this picture: "An incredibly bright, neon baby/Barbie pink. So weird, and so hard to photograph. It's not been a favourite in recent months, but it's so unique I'm still glad I have it." This colour is pretty ridiculous, and you really need to tone down any other makeup surrounding it, because it's so loud, but it can be fun, especially in the summer. As an amplified formula lipstick, the lasting power is pretty excellent for a regular lipstick, and as all MAC lipsticks do, it smells amazing.

18.Urban Decay Revolutions lipstick in F-Bomb

I know the Revolutions lipsticks aren't really a thing anymore, but I still have them and want to wear them. This one is a mini I think I got as a point perk from Sephora, and it's a simple, true red colour, with a surprising amount of shine, considering the opacity and lasting power on this lipstick! I don't know why in the world they reformulated, since these lipsticks were so great and so comfortable... Oh well.

19. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Addis Ababa

I've already told you how much I love this formula (last week, I think), and this was my introduction to the range. This is a great, slightly blue-toned pink, lasts forever, and it's definitely a go-to lipstick for me! If you've never tried these lippies, you really should get one and give it a go!

20. Too Faced Melted Liquefied Lipstick in Melted Jelly Donut

Another great formula! I own 4 of these lipsticks, but Jelly Donut was my first full-size, the other three were minis either from points or sets, but I love this formula and wanted to finally give Too Faced some money for it! These go on fairly opaque and pretty glossy, but dry down over the next little while to a really great matte finish. Long-lasting, not drying, and really end up feeling like nothing on your lips... I constantly forget I'm wearing lipstick when I wear these. This shade is a gorgeous, somewhat muted bright pink, if that makes sense. Melted Fuchsia is a neon bright pink, but Jelly Donut has a bit more deepness, and maybe a bit more blue. I think it would be a beautiful, wearable colour on most people, even those usually uncomfortable in a bold lip.

21. NARS Velvet Matte Lipstick in Cruella

This was from the lip pencil duo offered as the (I think) 2015 Sephora Beauty Insider birthday gift. It's a deep, matte, pigmented, opaque red shade and it's absolutely gorgeous. The lipstick itself feels a tiny bit heavy, but it lasts well, and the shade is beautiful. There's a touch of a rust-tone to it, which makes it pretty unique (at least in my collection) and blood-like.

22. NYX Liquid Suede lipstick in Cherry Skies

Another lipstick I would call blood-red, but this one is much deeper and darker than Nars Cruella. Where Cruella is more the colour of fresh blood, Cherry Skies is a dark, dry blood-red. Or the colour of a cherry stain! It does have a touch of that purple tone of cherry juice, especially if sheered out or smudged, but the full-impact colour is deep, vampy red. And I love it. I'm so glad I purchased this at IMATS because it is one of my favourite colours from the Liquid Suede line!

23. Smashbox lipstick in Magenta Matte

Finally, we have Smashbox Magenta Matte. I got this lipstick—full-seized!—in last year's Give Me More Lip set (which doesn't look like will be out again this year?). These Smashbox matte lipsticks are so so comfortable! They feel thin and silky on the lips, instead of chalky or drying, and they can easily be worn sheerly or built up to opacity. I also love this colour, somewhat similar to Candy Yum-Yum, which is another bright, blue-based pink, but a bit paler, and probably a bit less neon. I love it, and it really has put the Smashbox lipstick formula on my radar (well, this and Punked Matte, but that will be coming in next week's post!).

***

So that's all for this week's lipstick round-up, only 7 more lipsticks to go until I'm done! I hope you haven't minded some of the lipsticks being shown against my bare skin, but I just don't wear full makeup everyday, and I won't do a full-face of foundation just for a lipstick picture! Also, any editing I've done to these picture on IG has been to try to more accurately show the colour, in cases of weird or poor lighting conditions.

I hope you've been enjoying this challenge! Let me know what some of your lipsticks were, or if I've inspired you to try out any of the ones I've featured so far. xD

GRWM || Neutral eyes & Red lip || ft. Makeup Revolution Flawless 2 palette

In case my last few Halloween videos haven't interested you, here's a good normal, everyday makeup look featuring the Makeup Revolution Flawless 2 palette, which I had never used before. It is a pretty great palette full of tons of great neutral colours, shimmery and matte. This could be a great drugstore alternative to expensive, high end neutral palettes.

Tutorial || Forest Fairy Halloween Costume Makeup

Hey guys! Today I've got a fun, creative Halloween tutorial for you! Not creative in that I think I made it up, but creative because you can take inspiration from what I did, but it would also be so easy to put your own spin on it and still come up with something awesome!

Feel free to use different colours, depending what you want this makeup to be, green is great for a wood fairy or elf, but you could also be a pink fairy, or use blues, greens, and teals for a water sprite or mermaid. I hope you enjoy this video and if you take any inspiration from it, I'd love to see what you come up with!

30 Day Lipstick Challenge || Update # 2 || Second Week

Hey guys! It's been another week, so here I am to show you the next week of lipsticks in my 30-day lipstick challenge. If you didn't see my first week, check out my first 10 lipsticks round-up post before you read this post! Once again, I will be inserting my Instagram pictures of each lipstick, as well as a quick review of each lipstick! Make sure to follow me on Instagram to keep up with the rest of the challenge, if you don't already.

To make things line up nicely, I'm only sharing 6 lipsticks in this post, but the final 2 posts will be full 7-day weeks. Hope that isn't confusing!! So let's jump into the lipsticks:

11. MAC Lipstick in Creme Cup

This simple baby-pink nude is so pretty and feminine, and natural enough to go with just about any makeup look. Great for daytime, and super comfortable because it's a cremesheen formula. So it's more soft and moisturizing feeling, instead of heavy or drying like some of MAC's matte, satin, and amplified formula lipsticks. Great basic shade for anyone.

12. MAC Lipstick in Impassioned

This was my first-ever MAC lipstick, and I still love it! It's an amplified formula, so it's opaque, pigmented, and even starts to mattify after some time. I love the bright, warm (almost coral) pink of this shade, as well as the incredible lasting power. I would definitely recommend this colour if you are looking for a great, bright, warm pink lipstick.

13. MAC Lipstick in Matte Royal

I adore this shade. It's bright, deep, and bold, and lasts for ages without feathering. The matte formula keeps it in place, though it isn't like a liquid matte lipstick that dries down and won't smear. It's still creamy, but that makes it more comfortable. I love that this is definitely blue, not nearly-black like some blue lipsticks, and I love how it punches up the blue tones in my eyes (it would also contrast beautifully with brown eyes). I thought I wouldn't be comfortable in it the first time I tried it on in store, but I fell in love immediately, and had to have this gorgeous, unique shade!

14. Colourpop Lippie Stix in Grind

I'm sure you already know of the greatness of Colourpop Lippie Stix, they're small, inexpensive, high-quality, and come in a range of fantastic, and sometimes strange colours! This matte purple is a touch on the bright and warm side, and I find it super wearable. It's also similar in shade to the Kat Von D L.U.V. liquid lipstick, but a bit warmer. I love this colour!

15. Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick in 01

This is basically my favourite basic red lipstick. I love that it's a neutral tone, possibly leaning slightly on the blue side, but mostly a true red lipstick. The scent of the Rimmel lipsticks is pretty appalling, in my opinion, but they are well-priced and comfortable! The lasting power is nothing special on this basic lipstick, it isn't matte or drying at all (which is an upside in some ways), so it does come off pretty easily, especially if you're eating.

16. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes

Finally, you might remember I just picked this lipstick up at Vancouver IMATS in July, and I really do love this formula! This is my third shade, and the mousse-y texture goes on quick and smooth before drying down pretty quickly into a nearly-smudgeproof layer on your lips. It's completely matte, not flaky, and not at all heavy. I frequently forget I'm wearing these! Also, with this beautiful nude shade, it fades so softly that I don't have to touch it up if I don't want to, it's such a great My-lips-but-better shade! I love that it isn't just a brown nude, but also has a hint of peachy pinkness so it looks really natural and pretty.

That's all for now, don't forget to check out last week if you haven't already, and subscribe and follow on Instagram to follow the rest of the challenge!

30 Day Lipstick Challenge || Update #1 || First 10 days

Hey Guys! If you follow me on Instagram (@glitterOCD), you probably already know that I'm doing a 30-Day Lipstick challenge! I pulled out as many of my lipsticks as I could find (I think I scrounged up about 68), not including some that were provided by PR but which I didn't end up loving.

A photo posted by Kristy (@glitterocd) on

I picked out 30 to wear this month, making sure to include at least one from each colour family, as well as one from each brand I owned lipsticks from. I put them all in a makeup bag and I have just been digging through to find a colour for each day. I know some people have prepicked each day's colour, but I wanted some room for choice still!

A photo posted by Kristy (@glitterocd) on

There will be 4 of these posts in total to round up all 30 lipsticks I'll wear this month. This first one includes 10 days instead of 7 because, well, 30 just doesn't divide nicely into 4! While I do love some of the colours I wore this week, I did end up picking some of my lesser favourites from the bunch because I didn't want to be left with all my least favourites in the last week!

Finally, I just don't wear a full face of makeup every single day, so some of my lipstick pictures will show just my mouth, especially if my skin has been acting up like it has recently. But the lipstick is what is important here. That said, here are the lipsticks I've worn since Oct 3, and my mini reviews!

Day 1: MAC Satin Lipstick in Rebel (with Nightmoth lipliner)

A photo posted by Kristy (@glitterocd) on

This lipstick is definitely a favourite for me! It's such a beautiful, deep berry colour, without being crazy vampy dark like some of my other favourites! The formula is great, as the MAC Satins tend to be, but for all-day wear, I recommend some kind a lipliner, whether you use a matching colour or a clear. (Sephora Collection has a good clear lip liner option!) Also, if you don't love the scent of MAC lipsticks, I'm guessing you're some kind of sociopath. =)

Day 2: Too Faced Melted Liquified Lipstick in Melted Peony

A photo posted by Kristy (@glitterocd) on

Despite it's nude-ness, I actually really love this shade! Part of that is going to be that I ADORE the Too Face Melted lipstick formula! It goes on so nicely, smells like sugar (not vanilla or fruit, just sugar), and eventually dries down and LASTS! The lighter shade needs a bit more touching up than it's deeper and brighter sisters, but it also fades beautifully back to my natural liptone. This is just such a great go-to no matter what you've got on your eyes. Also, it kind of reminds me of MAC Creme Cup, but with more opacity and lasting power.

Day 3: Marc Jacobs Lipstick in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

A photo posted by Kristy (@glitterocd) on

This was the mini lipstick that came in this year's Sephora BI birthday gift. It's actually a rather pretty colour; kind of a red-pink-neutral that I'm sure works on lots of skin tones. It's a fairly normal formula, not especially drying, moisturizing, or long-lasting. But solid. Not sure it's worth the Marc Jacobs pricetag though, for me. Still, it has good opacity (nothing sheer here!) and is a great everyday shade I'l definitely keep wearing.

Day 4: NudeStix Lip + Cheek Pencil in Whisper

A photo posted by Kristy (@glitterocd) on

By far the weirdest colour in this challenge, for me! I got this from Brit, who got it in a sample kit (Give Me Some Lip 2015, maybe? I don't remember.) and did not like it. I love the idea of it, but its so weird and really washes me out, at least without a full face of makeup. This is either going to end up as something I mix to soften other shades, or I'll never use it. One of the two! It does have good lasting power, for a nude, but it also feels quite heavy on the lips and isn't especially comfortable, though it isn't drying in the same way a liquid lipstick is.

Day 5: NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick in Foiled Again

A photo posted by Kristy (@glitterocd) on

The first of several of the NYX Liquid Suedes to be featured in this challenge! I love the formula on these so much! No, they never really dry down all the way, the way some liquid lipsticks do, but they also remain slightly more comfortable because of that, while still lasting a long time. Also, when you need to touch up, these build up again nicely without getting weird and patchy or flakey, which is great. This bright orange is gorgeous, and slightly softer than my other beloved orange: MAC's Morange. This is more of a summer colour with it's brightness, but it is fun and beautiful, and really reminds me of orange creamsicles!

Day 6: Revlon Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake

A photo posted by Kristy (@glitterocd) on

An oldie, this is still such a great formula. I only ever owned the one colour of these, but it is so creamy and comfortable, and really feels like it's hydrating my lips while also being a beautiful, affordable, slightly sheer dupe for NARS Roman Holiday. Great for everyday with it's soft, bubblegum pinkness, especially with it doubling as a lipbalm!

Day 7: Sephora Collection + Pantone lipstick in Marsala

A photo posted by Kristy (@glitterocd) on

No, I'm sorry, you can't get this one anymore... But it is such a beautiful colour that I don't wear often enough, and I had to include it in the challenge! It was the first nearly-brown tone I ever bought, and it was so far outside my comfort zone at the time, but I loved it! It's not a true brown at all, more of a rusty red-brown, but it is such a great warm neutral lipstick that looks great with so many types of eyeshadow, or is almost bold if worn with a natural eye.

Day 8: Ciate Liquid Velvet lipstick in Risque

A photo posted by Kristy (@glitterocd) on

This is a gorgeous, vibrant red-orange lipstick, and a great formula. Another liquid matte that never dries completely, but these are marketed as a "moisturizing" matte, and it is quite comfortable, so I think it is doing exactly what it means to! Great applicator swipes colour on beautifully and precisely, which is so important for a colour this vibrant. I should wear this lipstick more, since I always forget how much I like it.

Day 9: NYX Liquid Suede lipstick in Alien

A photo posted by Kristy (@glitterocd) on

Yep. Honestly, I'm still convinced this isn't quite a black, but it sure as hell photographs like one! But when I remove it, it always looks like a deep blue on my cotton pad. But yeah, it acts and looks like a black. It's bold, opaque, long-lasting, and doesn't feather. I love it so much, and it may be the best black lipstick I've ever worn. Feathering may look bad on any lipstick, but if you've ever had black lipstick feather around your mouth, you've reached a new level of horrifying makeup, because it makes you look gaunt and dirty and dead and messy all at the same time. This is such a great option, whether you'll wear black out on a regular day like I will, or even if you only want to wear it for costumes, since the formula is so good, and it's only $10.

Day 10: Tom Ford lipstick in Drake

A photo posted by Kristy (@glitterocd) on

In my opinion, we aren't ending the week on a high note here, but I didn't go out this day, and didn't want to waste a great lipstick on a no-makeup, barely-left-the-house type of day. Anyways, there's really nothing wrong with this lipstick, exactly, but it isn't my cup of tea. I won this from a blog giveaway (I think it was from Makeup Your Mind?), and kinda thought it was different? Or maybe it was a skintone difference... anyways, this is a shimmery, sheer berry lipstick. It's a pretty good everyday, anytime type of shade, and it's pretty comfortable. It's shiny enough that the shimmer doesn't bug me either. It also smells slightly vanilla, which I like, but yeah. The colour isn't really my thing. And I don't think you can buy this now anyways? Sorry.

***

Let me know if you have any of these shades, and if your opinion differs from mine! Also, don't forget to come back next week to see my mini reviews for the next 7 lipsticks in the challenge! And let me know if you decide to do this challenge so I can follow you on IG to see which lipsticks you choose. =D

New KISS Products For Halloween & Holiday 2016 || Blooming Lashes, Press-On Nails, Nails sets, Halloween nails stickers, and more!

A while ago I was invited to the KISS Products Fall/Holiday 2016 Preview event, where I got to see a bunch of the new nail and lash products that Kiss has out now or for the Holiday season. I also got a great goodie bag full of fun products, and I wanted to show you what I received, and give you my thoughts on some of the products I've already had the chance to try out!

kiss nails and lashes logo

As always, while I was given these products for my consideration, this post is not sponsored, and no one even asked me for my reviews. I just want to share my honest opinions about some of these things and show you some of the fun things Kiss has in store.

First, let's take a look at the new KISS lashes that are out. These are their "Blooming Lashes," and I've been surprised at how much I like them and how easy they are to work with.

Kiss blooming lashes

These lashes are supposed to have a very natural look to them because of the multiple layers of lashes, instead of most other strip lashes which all come out at the same level... something your lashes do not do.

kiss lash lily

Lily, probably the first ones I tried, and very pretty. Light enough for my face, even with my hooded lids, because the lashes are long but thin and fluttery.
___

I've tried about 3 or 4 of the styles I received so far, and I really do like them. I'm not a pro at lash application, but I can get these on at least passably well pretty much every time, as they are pretty easy to work with. The ones with the lighter, more feathery lashes are a bit easier than the denser ones, I found, since the lash band seems to bend easier on those ones. A clear band is always easier to use, in my experience.

kiss lash peony

Jasmine: probably the boldest lashes I recieved, since they are as thick as Lily (below), but also long and fluttery.
___

That said, one of my favourites for my faces was Tulip, since the shorter lashes fit my hooded eyes much better, without overwhelming my eye or eyeshadow as much as the longer options. Tulip is a great option for anyone with small lids who still wants really bold lashes!

kiss lash tulip

Above: Tulip. To see close ups of the other lashes, click on any image in this post. You should be taken to an album with all the pictures of the KISS products, including the other lashes.
___

I also recieved a black tinted lash glue (which I will probably never use, because I am not skilled enough to mess around with black glue) and a pack of Trio lashes, which are great for customizing your lashes to be as bold or subtle as you want. But I find they take way more practise than a lash strip, because the placement is very finnicky. I've never successfully applied this type of lashes...

kiss lash glue and singles

One more eye-related thing that I recieved from KISS were these cool eye tattoos:

eye tatoo

I'm not sure when I will get around to using this, since it doesn't fit into my Halloween makeup this year, but maybe I can fit it into a Halloween tutorial? They're really cool for someone lazy about Halloween, or who just doesn't have the skill to do a bunch of Halloween makeup. This one in particular would be really cool either as a lazy costume itself, or as part of something like a witch costume!

It sounds like these tattoos apply just like those water tattoos you used to wear as a kid (or maybe you still wear them, no judgement here!), and come off with baby oil or face cleanser.

***

That's all the lash and face products now, so let's have a look at the various types of press on nails and other nail products available from KISS that they were showing off and giving out at the event.

First, here are the most currently relevant things: the Broadway Halloween press-on nails. These come in a bunch of adorable and cool patterns for Halloween. I received two sets, but there is at least one more with a very cute candy corn print. The two I was given glow in the dark, as well, which makes them even cooler.

broadway halloween nails

These are very similar (if not exactly the same) as the usual KISS ImPress nails that I've tried many times before. They already have an adhesive tab applied to the back of each nail, you just pick out your sizes, peel off the plastic backs, and press them on. They're really quick and easy to use and last about a week—I've worn them up to 10 days in the past.

They're also really easy to remove; if you wear them for a full week, they may pop off on their own, or at least start to loosen, but if you only want them for a couple days they're still easy to pop back off with minimum effort or nail damage, and you can try to get a little hot water or nail polish remover under the nail if you need help loosening them.

impress nails

And since we're already talking about the ImPress nails, above are 4 of the new sets hey have out for either the Fall or Holiday season. I love that these aren't super long, so they don't get in the way of your everyday life. It can be pretty hard going from naturally short nails like mine to long, glamourous nails in minutes. You have no time to adapt!

Back to Halloween...

cute halloween stickers

If you don't want or need fake nails, KISS also has some really cool nail stickers, as well as some fun Halloween nail wraps. I love that KISS gets so into the Halloween fun!

nail dresses and art sticker

Also pictured above at the polish pop stickers and nail wraps wish are meant for creating accent nails. There isn't enough of any pattern to create a full manicure from, but you can use bits and pieces to dress up your manicure (or even patch up an existing one!)

Continuing on the nail art theme, these waterless nail tattoos are also a fun way to create accent nails, or patch up chips. Or you could use them on every nail for a fun, feathery manicure that looks like you have some mad nailart painting skillz.

waterless tattoos

KISS also put out two really cool gift sets that would be great for this Christmas for any nail or beauty lover. The first is a great little manicure set with all the tools you need for home manicures:

manicure set

The second is a nail art kit with brushes, stickers, glitters, foil tape, and a mini topcoat/nail art sealer.:

nail art kit

This is a great little kit, and I've already used some of the glitter from it to create accent nails. I think anyone looking to get into nail art would really enjoy this kit because it has lots to play with, whether you want glitter, dots, or just good brushes to draw your own art. The long, thin striper brush and the fan brush are great for getting cool effects.

Finally, KISS has put out some beautiful Gel Fantasy press-on nail styles for the Holidays, including these two glittery beauties:

gel fantasy nails

As you can see from the picture, these come in a few different lengths, so you can pick the one that is best for your life style comfort level, or existing nails (if you don't want to have to cut down your nails to fit under the fake one, for example). I will point out, also, that these are very different from the ImPress and Broadway nails that I was talking about earlier. Those pop on easily and pop back off whenever you want. But where those are temporary, these seem semi-permanent.

These do come with adhesive tabs, which may act more like the imPress nails, though I haven't tried them, and cannot confirm or deny this theory. The way they were applied to my nails at the event was with a liquid adhesive that is included in each package. The glue is applied to the inside of the nail, as well as your natural nail, and it really sticks these nails on!

gel fantasy blue

The upside to that is that it feels much more natural to use the nails for everyday things like typing, scratching an itch, or playing with your hair. The ImPress nails can move a bit with pressure applied, and never adhere at the edges, so I find hairs can easily stick underneath and get tugged or broken. The Gel Fantasy nails don't allow those annoying things to happen, but they are also much more difficult to remove, and I do feel that they damaged my nails when I took mine off.

You've supposed to file off the shine and they soak your nails in acetone/nail polish remover to get these ones off, and I'll admit I'm a bit impatient, and did that to an extent, but also kinda just pulled them off as soon as I could, which too the top layer of nail with the fake in some places. It took my nails a couple of weeks to grow out and recover from this damage. But that said, I can still definitely see myself using them again. You just need to be careful and/or accept the consequences!

gel fantasy gold

Finally, I also recieved these pretty, simple French manicure style "acrylic" nail press-ons that look to apply the same way as the Gel Fantasy nails. I haven't tested them yet, but I imagine they act the same, or at least very similarly, and really stick to your nails in the same way.

acrylic french nails

One more thing to point out about the press-on nails: part of the reason they only last about a week—whether we're talking about the ImPress, Broadway Nails, Gel Fantasy, or Acrylic Nudes—is that your nails are going to grow out in about a week to a point where it becomes less attractive and less comfortable to wear the fake nails because of the new gap at the base of your nails. I found this made my nails feel more bendy as they grew out with the Gel Fantasies, probably because more weight and stiffness was at the tip of my nail than the new growth was prepared to handle.

***

All in all, while I've said some negative things about some of the products that KISS presented and provided me with, I really do think that this brand has a lot of great things available. I'm particularly partial to their fake nails because they are so much cooler, faster, and more durable than anything I can do to my own nails. They aren't an all-the-time thing, but they are fun to play with!

You should be able to find various KISS products at WalMart, London Drugs, Target, Well.ca, and various other places that sell drugstore nail products.

Tag || How I Did My Makeup in Highschool

In which I do that challenge/tag thing that has been going around Youtube, where you share and demonstrate how you used to do your makeup back in highschool. I graduated about 8 years ago, so longer than some, but not as long ago as some others.

Still, nearly everything about how I wear my makeup now I learned in the last 5 or 6 years, around when I started my blog, so my makeup back in highschool was very simple and very basic.

Hope you enjoy this look back at my past =P
