Hey guys! I say this a lot both here and on Twitter, especially in the last couple of months, but I am really sorry that I've been so inconsistent with both blog posts and videos! I just wanted to pop up what I hope will be a quick blog post to explain a little bit about what's been going on in my life, and why I haven't been as around as usual.
My family (who I live with) found out at the end of February that we had to move out of our house as soon as possible. As you might imagine, packing stuff up—and moving things, as soon as we got a new house—became a priority over my blog and channel, since this is a hobby for me rather than a job, though I'd love for it to be both! So there's been that. I have, clearly, got several posts and videos up since then, but they have been fairly sporadic. I've been better about filming, but for the most part I have found it hard to find time to edit and upload, or to sit down and write...
As of last Sunday—April 30th—we're fully and completely moved into our new house, so I no longer have that as a reason to be a shitty blogger. However, in a bittersweet turn of events, I now have a job! It's great, because I've had a hard time finding one the last little while, and it'll be great to have financial independence back again. Also, because I'm actually working for a brand and company that I really love, and as of my first three shifts, I'm not hating the job. For those wondering, I was hired as a barista at Starbucks; maybe that isn't great or glamorous or anything, and maybe it is following the stereotype of English Majors getting jobs at cafes, but I'm liking it so far, so I'm not too bothered. The downside to a new job, of course, is that it means I have a lot less free time. It has completely thrown my filming/editing/uploading schedule into question, but as I'm part time at least to start, I'm going to do my best to find time to get back into my three-posts-a-week schedule: Two videos on Mondays and Fridays, and one blog post on Wednesdays.
I can't promise it will work out, but I'm gonna give it a couple of weeks, see how my work schedule goes, and then adjust if necessary. But yes! I just wanted to explain why I have been so sporadic with my "schedule" recently, and let you know I really hope to get back on track. I still love blogging and YouTube, but I'm all about having a routine that works and it feels like it's been a while since I had a comfortable routine that fit writing, filming, and editing. I'm working on it, and thanks so much for anyone who has stuck with me here and/or on my channel, twitter, or instagram. I hope to be better with my social media in the near future as well, but it's all about balance and not burning out!
Thanks for reading that blob of pure text, if you did! Don't forget to check back again tomorrow morning (or whenever you do stuff like that) for a brand new video. And let me know in the comments if there are any posts: blog or video, that you'd like to see in the near future!
Hey guys, long time no talk! Sorry about my absence here and on my blog the last couple of weeks. I've been working on moving, and my whole family just has so much stuff, so there's been a lot to go through and either toss, donate, or pack and move to the new house. We still aren't quite done, but this video was really supposed to go up on my birthday on the 27th and I didn't want it to be any later, so here it is!
I did borrow this idea from Hannah Hart and Charlie McDonnell, though my research shows me that this seems to be a video that loooots of people post, so I don't feel too bad borrowing.
If you enjoy this, do let me know, and I can make a note to do another one next year with another 28 facts (for my 28th birthday!)
Hey guys! I have waaaaaay too many apps to link to them all, but if you search for any in the play store, you should find them easily enough. Let me know if you can't find one you're interested in and I'll get you a link!
Both of my backgrounds are from the Backdrops app.
My case is a clear Ringke Fusion case, and the paper is just some random wrapping paper from a package I received, but something similar could easily be found in a dollar store or stationary section. The Ringke Fusion cases are available for lots of different popular smartphones, as well, if you like the look and want something similar for your newer phone. Just check Amazon!
Hey guys! New tag for you today... this was filmed a while ago, before Christmas, if you were wondering about where my fancy new hair went. If you weren't, move along! =P But anyway, it's still winter for another month and a bit, so this still seemed pretty fitting. Enjoy, and feel free to post this tag yourself if you have a channel or blog, and remember to let me know in the comments, so I can go see your answers!
Hi Guys! Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great New Year's Eve, no matter how you celebrated, or if you went to bed early and slept through the change. Either way, this is always a great time to look at what you accomplished in the last year, and make goals for the year ahead. Of course, it's always a good time to make goals and put them into action, so never let the time of year stop you from making good life changes! But it is such a clean break and new beginning at the change of the years, so that's why so many of us think about setting resolutions. I thought I would share my look back at last year's resolutions here with you guys, as well as setting some new goals for 2017.
Last year I did my New Year's Resolutions post as a video, but I feel like text is a better vehicle for this type of content. Let me know if you disagree, and I can do a video again for next year. But until then, let's start by taking a look at how I did on last year's resolutions:
Drinking more water, more consistently — I think overall I've done pretty well on that this year. It's still something I'm working on, and I'm never perfect, but I would say that I get to the 6-8 cup mark more often than not. Something I do think has helped is an app I downloaded a while ago, which is Hydro Coach PRO. There is a free version, but the paid one has more features. Of course, for basic tracking, the free app would work just as well, and I love that it lets you input different amounts of water, as well as set the length of your day to get good reminder notifications... whether your day runs from 8 am to 12 am, or more like 12 pm to 4 am... like mine.
Read More — I did horribly on this one. I did not even end up finishing 10 books in the year. Granted, many of the books I chose over the last year were big chunky things with at least 500 pages, so maybe it evens out, but still, I feel I let myself down a little here, no where near my goal of 26 books.
Post more pictures — I think I did really well on this one in particular. I did do a 365 day challenge, where I tried to post a picture a day, and while I was not strict with that, I did complete my goal within the year, and even had some days where I posted more than one picture.
Being more positive — Granted, this is nearly impossible to actually quantify, I do think I've made some progress here. I think for the most part this year I've been happier, not necessarily because anything so great has happened, but I've just not gotten as down about little things I couldn't change or beaten myself up over my failings. Interestingly, I've also taken some chances I would have been more scared of in the past, and maybe those have helped as well. These have actually all been in the last 6 months or so, and include getting my septum piercing, getting my first tattoo, and dying my hair. Maybe those are silly reasons to be happier, but it's kinda like doing things I want just for me, and that feels pretty good.
Move more; I think I've done alright here in some ways, but also kinda failed in others. For example, I've actually changed my focus on exercise in the last little while to more weight and floor exercises, versus cardio, which is easier for me to do with where I am and what I have, rather than trying to make myself go out for a walk or whatever every other day. I just don't want to go outside all the time, alright? So that's been good, though I've also had a car in the last year, so places that I would normally have walked and bussed, frequently I will end up driving, which is obviously not helpful for moving more. Still, I think I'm in a place where I'm improving at the moment, so I won't be too hard on myself.
So that was last year. Could have been better, but definitely could have been worse! Now that we've taken a quick look at those goals, let's set some new ones. Here are some of my goals for 2017:
Read more for realz — You probably saw this coming, but since I failed this one so hard last year, I really feel like I need to give it another go this year. Last year's gold was 26 books, and while I still feel like that should be reasonable and achievable, I'm going to make this year's goal 15 books. That should give me more than 3 weeks per book, which sounds acceptable. I'm setting the bar lower than ever before this time, and I'd love if I could surpass this goal, but maybe this is all I can do at the moment.
Get tidier — you probably have no idea how messy of a person I am. In some part, I don't think I'm as bad as I used to be, but I used to be way worse, and since I've never got my shit under control and really tidied the fuck up, I feel no reason to act tidier now. I'd like to try to take more control of my mess and get it to a more acceptable and managable level. Part of my problem is I just have too much shit, and part is that I don't have enough storage for the stuff I have and love or the new stuff I like to buy. So yeah, organization, tidying, decluttering... hopefully all of that I can manage to find the time and willpower to work on this year.
Become a better cook — don't get me wrong, I'm already a pretty good cook, but I'm largely unpracticed, since I still live at home, where my mom generally cooks, or else I go out with my family or with friends. You may have seen some of the food pictures on instagram though (you can follow me as @glitterOCD), using the hastag: #KristyandDavidsCookingAdventures, which is how I share our home cooking adventures. And we're good, but I want to be better. I want to have more things I just know how to make without having to bust out a recipe. I am pretty good at figuring out what flavours are needed or lacking in something like chilli, but I want to get good at all types of food, especially Chinese and Italian, and I need to learn to make good Persian and Indian food, since they make some of my favourite dishes!
Stay on schedule — This wasn't really an issue in the earlier half of the year, but more recently I've been getting more lazy about filming, editing, and writing, and the regularity of my blog and YouTube have suffered when I just don't have content ready to go up on time. This is really frustrating for me, because this is something I love doing, and I really want to get back on track if I can. I've taken a look and think that the best schedule moving forward will be a M-W-F schedule, with videos going up on Mondays and Fridays, and blog posts on Wednesdays, at 6 am PST. After posting one at that time a few weeks ago, I've realised it seemt to be a good time for traffic. I'm going to try to keep a small pre-filmed bank, and edit and schedule my videos as quickly as I can, instead of filming the bare minimum so it's easy to run out and procrastinating on editing until the last minute.
And I think that's everything! I have other ongoing goals, but nothing I feel is interesting to put up here. Let me know some of your 2017 goals with me in the comments, or let me know why if you've chosen not to set any!
Hello again! I'm back with another round of non-beauty favourites, and today I'm talking about my favourite TV shows that you can watch on Netflix. There are some great ones I have to leave out of this post because they are not on Netflix, but maybe I'll get to those in another post. I do hope you're enjoying these random posts, because I'm enjoying putting them together!
Anyways, I was originally only going to pick 5, but I like a lot of stuff, so for my Top 5, I've picked shows I think are really excellent, really deserve your attention. The rest I've called honourable mentions, some of which I feel were very popular when they were airing on TV, and maybe don't need my praise... but I love them, and they are available on Netflix Canada (as a Canadian, that is the Netflix I have access to!), and if you haven't seen them, I really think you should try them out! Anyways, without furhter ado, let's get into some of my favourite shows on Netflix!
This one was super popular on the internet, so I'm sure LOTS of people have already seen it, but if, like me, you hesitate to jump on a bandwagon, because if everyone is going on about something, it can't be that great... I need to tell you to get off your high horse and try Jessica Jones! It's truly fantastic. It's a little bit film noir, a little bit thriller-y and creepy, mysterious, alluring, and fascinating. I had the hardest time stopping. And it's only 13 episodes, so what do you have to lose? Seriously, give it a go. If you're hesitant because of Kristen Ritter, because you've only seen her play cute, ditsy, hipstery airheads, don't worry, Jessica Jones is nothing like that, and Ritter does an amazing job as a strong—if damaged—female lead. Also, it has David Tennant, so that's a reason to watch, right there. I almost want to go rewatch it, now that I'm thinking about it again!
I'm not usually a comedy fan, or a fan of Andy Samberg (though some Lonely Island songs are funny, but this is a really great, light-hearted, and funny show. If you like Parks & Recreation, this show has a very similar feel to it, but instead of a small government department in Indiana, you're in a police precinct in Brooklyn. It's so funny, and easy to watch a one or a couple, because while there is a story arc or two in each season, the episodes are also really easy to enjoy as one-offs. All the characters are very endearing, and one thing I actually like better than in Parks & Rec, you don't have to feel as sorry for the office punching bags as I always did about poor Jerry/Gary/Larry... maybe that shouldn't have made me so angry, but I hated how they picked on him =(
But anyways, off-topic, wrong show... Watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine, you'll love it, there are 3 seasons on Netflix and a 4th one airing, so there's more to come! Honestly it's so much better than this trailer makes it look, but here it is if you want it:
This is probably one of the best DC comics related things I've personally seen, aside from the Dark Knight trilogy. It's a Batman prequel that acts like a crime drama, mostly focusing on a young Detective James Gordon (future Commissioner Gordon), but also features young Bruce Wayne, and some other future Batman characters as children or younger adults. It starts with the killing of Bruce's parents, and the investigation into that crime, but it's such a good show. It's dark sometimes, but that's Batman for you. Gotham is a scary place full of scary people, and it's so cool to see a take on the events that shaped the various beloved heroes and villians of the Batman franchise. Also, Benjamin Mackenzie... who proves he is a much better actor even than his portrayal of Ryan Atwood may have made you think!
Another show with David Tennant... I won't try to hide the fact that I think he is a brilliant actor and have made every effort to search out as many things that he has done that I can. If you haven't seen Doctor Who, specifically from the reign of the Tenth Doctor, you may not understand my near obsession with this actor, but I promise you he is fantastic. Maybe he is not exactly attractive, but I don't give a shit because he is so talented. I've seen him portray a wide variety of characters and he nails each one. So I have to admit that was a large motivating factor in me watching this show.
That said, this show is excellent, whether or now you care about Tennant, or just want a great, dramatic, heart-wrenching, captivating show about a small town murder and the aftermath for those left behind, from the emotional trauma and fractured relationships of those involved, to the police work and twists in the trial. It's such a good show, and has so many twists and turns that it really keeps you guessing about how things really went down. All of the characters are interesting and complex with their own stories, and there is so much going on in this fantastic show. You just have to keep watching.
I was so excited when Netflix announced that this show was coming out, because I'm love England, English history, and the royal family, especially Elizabeth. I also really enjoyed the movie The Queen, with Helen Mirren, which was about more recent history of Queen Elizabeth, so yes, I was excited for a show about Elizabeth as a new monarch, and about the beginning of her reign. And this show has not let me down in the least. It's quiet, in a British way, and may take some liberties with history, or what can even be known about the historical facts of private conversations, such as between the Queen and her sister, but all in all, it's a great show. It's dramatic and beautiful, and Claire Foy and Matt Smith were the perfect choices to play the young Queen and Prince Philip respectively. Besides, it's lovely to see Matt Smith in something new because he hasn't done a lot, and I just love him as a person!
So yes, if you love history, Britain, the royal family, Matt Smith, historical fiction, dramas, British tv, or all of the above, you should definitely give this show a shot! Apparently this show didn't get as many views as hoped, but they are making a Season 2, so hopefully more people will watch and we'll get more of this beautiful series!
Honourable Mentions / Obvious Suggestions
Here are a few shows also on Canadian Netflix which I loved, but which were either hugely popular when they were airing on TV, so I probably don't need to tell you how great they are. These you probably have seen, or know why you don't care to watch them, but in case you missed them, I thought I'd make a quick list. And then a few are just other great shows available on Netflix which weren't quite good enough to bump one of my top 5, but which I still seriously loved.
Besides, it wouldn't be a top 5 list from me if I didn't cheat and add some extras, because I can never bloody choose.
Musical, sometimes goofy, sometimes serious, big, lovely cast, fun recent (at the time) song covers... I just loved this show and really want to do a rewatch!
I don't know what there is to say about this. You probably already know all about it, you've probably seen clips, if not the whole damn series. But it is so great, I can rewatch it again and again. It's classic and on Netflix, so yeah, just throwing it out there.
I watched the first season or 2 of this show, but my parents didn't like it, so at the time, their preferences over-rode mine. Instead, I finally watched the whole show this year on Netflix in anticipation of the new special episodes. And damn, it's a good show. I can definitely see wanting to rewatch in the future, because most of the characters are so lovely, and it's fun watching Rory grow up. And I love Luke.
This is a great British tv show and modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes stories. It's so well written, filmed, and acted, and you have to watch it. It's very short, there are only 3 seasons of 3 episodes each, and I think one special. So less than a full season of Game of Thrones. You won't regret taking the time!
Another British drama-y type show. This one is about some delinquents who get super powers through a freak storm, and their lives after. The first 2 or 3 seasons are the best, but if you start, you may as well finish up. I really enjoyed it.
I started this one on a whim because I wanted to watch something fluffy but didnt want to finish Fresh Prince yet. But honestly, its really funny. It sweet and quirky and not stupid comedy in that loud obnoxious way. Its weird, its like its still kinda dumb, but sometimes it feels intelligent too? Yeah, give it a go. There are 3 seasons on Netflix and I think another is coming.
Another show I'm sure you've seen clips of, if not full episodes. But it's so damn good, and its so interesting how some of the racial commentary is still so relevant. Which makes it sound serious, and it can be, like any good comedy can, but it's also really fun and funny and Will Smith has always been fantastic. Also, some of the meta/self-awareness moments in this show are just gold.
And finally, I have to recommend Supergirl! The first season is now available on Netflix, and the second season is still currently airing. I really love the way they've approached it, and I'm glad that the tone and look haven't changed too much with the station switch to the CW. It doesn't have the same feel as the other CW DC Comics shows (Arrow, the Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow)... I'm not sure why, but I just love it so much more. Maybe because it seems to be more heavily focussed on a female protagonist. I'm not sure. There's a level of cheesiness to this show as well, it's very bubbly and happy as often as possible, and I just really recommend it.
And here are a couple I want to watch, but haven't yet, so I can't suggest them formally:
9. Medici: Masters of Florence
A few things are at play here: 1) this is a Netflix show, and they seem to be pretty damn good at stuff, 2) Richard Madden, 3) I love history, and this is about the Medicis... the Renaissance... one of my favourite periods to learn about! I love me some good historical fiction, as well, so really this just looks great. Plus Jodi (blogger @ uptherollercoaster.com) was tweeting about how good it was recently, which helps.
10. The Vampire Diaries
Honestly, I just love vampires, but I never got around to this show. It seems to have been popular though, let me know your thoughts if you ever watched it. It intrigues me.

Let me know any great shows available on Netflix that you think I should have included or need to watch in the comments!
Hey guys! Today I wanted to start something I will try to add to periodically: a series of posts about some of my favourite things that have nothing to do with beauty, hair, makeup, or skincare! I'm going to start out by sharing with you my five fave PC games!
I've (shockingly) never owned a game console, unless you count the Nintendo DS, but I only got that from a friend years after it was a model or two out of date because she had the new one. And I only got that to play Pokemon HeartGold, my first ever Pokemon game. But I have always played computer games; I had educational games I loved to death as a kid, Oregon Trail, Kid Pix and other art games, as well as the first couple Harry Potter games (which I was always kinda scared to finish, because I was a terrible gamer). And I still really only play PC games... and so, here are my 5 absolute favourite PC games, in no particular order:
The only Blizzard game I've tried, Overwatch is gorgeous! It's a lot like TF2 (a game I long thought would also be in this post, but which I and my friends have completely stopped playing since OW came out), in that it's an FPS with cartoon-y characters who play a range of different roles with different weapons. There are defence, offence, healers, builders, and tank classes, though one awesome thing about Overwatch is that there are female characters as well as male, approximately a 50/50 split. I'm not really sure what else there is to say...
You play online, either making a group with friends, or playing with strangers on teams of 6v6. There are several different map, a regular quick play mode, a weekly brawl that is a fun twist on the game that changes frequently, and a competitive mode that works in seasons with medals and rankings, as well as stricter rules. It's a really fun and addictive game, even if you aren't a great player =P. You can get Overwatch from Blizzard starting at $39.99 USD for the most basic edition (pricier options come with more perks like skins or even physical goodies).
This old, simple game is one of the best things I was ever introduced to. I'm pretty sure almost no one ever plays it anymore (especially since they released an updated version 2), but it's a solo game, so that doesn't matter to me! The basic idea is that you make the game what you want by using your own music, and the levels adapt and are shaped by the rhythm and speed of the songs you choose! There are several game modes, from zen to complicated, but to be honest, I only ever play the easiest level.
I love how relaxing this game is! Since you use your own music, its really easy to start predicting the patterns the game will give you, especially the more you play. I love using the game to chill out, or even to help me learn lyrics to newer songs I don't quite have down yet, because it forces me to focus on the songs by distracting my hands and eyes while I listen. I find it's easiest to get the right beat when I sing along with the songs as well. This game probably sounds boring to lots of you, but if it sounds slightly interesting, I seriously suggest you give it a go. It's only $10.99 CDN on steam!
This game is fantastic, and unlike anything I've ever played before or since, except maybe it's sequel, which we'll get to in a minute. There's something so enthralling about the physics puzzles in this game, and don't be scared off by the word physics, you don't need to be good at science to get this game. As the name suggests, you use a portal gun to work your way through level after level as you try to complete test chambers for the disembodied voice that eggs you on and mocks you throughout the game. She's a little dark, mean, and monotonous, and I love her. Her dark humour is what ultimately makes this game, aside from the infuriatingly tough test chambers that you can't help but want to solve!
Maybe it's cheating to include the sequel to one of the best games in the world as another game on this list, but hell, I'd be lying if I didn't include it in my top five!! Besides, this game is longer, more complex, and ramps everything up by adding even more elements into the game for you to figure out and then use to solve the new puzzles!
The same dark humour is here, along with some new amazing characters, more back story for the original, and it's just a freaking work of art! Honestly, after you've played Portal, you'll need to play this too, but don't jump into this one! You'll want to know the original story before you start playing this one, and the original is only a couple hours long, so you'll be jumping into Portal 2 in no time! Portal 2 is $21.99 alone, or $24.73 bundled with Portal
Many games have tried to replicate the beauty and wonder that is the Portal franchise, and while I will never argue that this one is as great, it gives it a really good try. Unfortunately, this game (though I haven't finished this one, I am several hours deep) completely lacks any of the humour, dialogue, or even characters. Instead, it's very quiet (which is really cool in it's own way. It may have ambient music, but it's not really something that sticks in my mind one way or another.) and focusses entirely on the mechanics and puzzles. Like many puzzle games, its starts slow with one or two mechanics, teaching you more as you go and putting them together for more and more difficult chambers. It is very similar to Portal in it's clean, very white & grey, minimalistic design, and it also uses a similar set up to Porta's test chambers as a way to separate and distinguish levels.
All in all, it is a really fun game, and I would certainly recommend it to anyone who has finished both Portal games, and is looking for something new to fill that void. It's very engrossing and has much the same way of being infuriatingly tough... you know each room is solvable, but it's never easy. What is easy is sinking hours into this game! Q.U.B.E. is $10.99 CDN on Steam.
As mentioned earlier, when I first thought to do this post a few months ago, up until pretty recently I honestly thougt that Team Fortress 2 would be one of the games that had to be on this list, but—sad to say—Overwatch has entirely replaced TF2 in the games my friends play, and since I rarely play games, especially multiplayers, alone, I haven't played TF2 since Overwatch came out! I haven't kept up with the community since OW, but David has, since this game was his life for years, and it looks like the developers have continually made bad mistakes and kinda fucked up the game play, so even though there are those who didn't jump ship for Overwatch, it sounds like this game is dying.
It was really fun, though. Unlike Overwatch, TF2 stuck with the same 12 characters from the beginning, keeping it new and exciting instead through new items, both useful—like new weapons to add new play styles, and cosmetic—such as clothing items, accessories, and of course, hats... because why the fuck not?! There were frequent updates and events, sometimes new maps were added, a new play-style (ManvMachine), and fun holiday updates like Halloween and Christmas.
I'm sad I don't play anymore, and I miss the Pyro (my favourite character... no Overwatch character can quite compare to my love for that psycho), but I'm kinda scared to taint my memories by going back if the game is as broken as it sounds like it's becoming. I'd rather preserve my memories. God... I sound like one of my friends died. Don't judge me. If you'd like to give it a go, lucky for you TF2 became Free-to-Play on Steam a few years ago, so you can do that with no real consequences.

Thanks for reading!
None of the links in this post get me anything and I'm not paid by anyone to write this post, these are just some of my honest favourite games and the links are so you can find them easily yourself if you're interested =D
Who doesn't love a good, nosy look in someone else's purse? =P I love these videos and it's been a pretty long time since I filmed one... I feel like a bit of the stuff I do and don't carry is pretty different, so yeah.
Lemme know if you have done a video or post like this! I want to see more pretty bags! =D
Today's video is inspired by Hank Green (vlogbrothers) and Charlie McDonnell (charlieissocoollike), two of my favourite Youtubers.
Hank filmed 15 of his favourite feelings, Charlie only got to 12 (which makes me feel better about stopping at 10), and I wanted to share my own with you guys, because these videos kinda just made me happy. Because good feelings can do that.
Enjoy, and feel free to share some of your favourite feelings in the comments, a blog post, or a video, and send me a link if you have done this little challenge as well! =)
Hey guys! This past weekend was my boyfriend and my 6 year dating anniversary — October 30th, to be specific — so we decided to take a short 1-night trip up to Harrison Hot Springs for something fun and different! I decided to vlog a bit both to show you around, and just for memory's sake really! I think it could be cool later on to look back at a quick little video of what we did for our anniversary :P
In case you don't know, and unless you live in British Columbia as well, I imagine you wouldn't know, but Harrison Hot Springs is about an hour and a half drive from Vancouver, and up in the mountains, I guess. Natural hot springs are cooled and processed to be safe for bathing and swimming, and this little resort town has basically grown around with tons of hotels and spas and restaurants. It's a really pretty place, and would probably be a lovely place to visit in the summer or spring, but I thought it was gorgeous and kinda old-school gothic even in the rainy, foggy fall weather we had last weekend!
I hope you enjoy taking a little look at what we got up to over the weekend!
