11 Questions Tag

Hello again, a few days ago I was tagged by Ashesela in her 11 Questions Tag post, and I’m finally getting around to doing it! I love doing survey type things, so this should be fun. =)

11 questions

Rules:

  • Each person must post 11 things about themselves on their blog.
  • Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
  • You have to choose 11 people to tag and link them on the post.
  • Go to their page and tell them you have linked him or her.
  • No tag backs.
  • No stuff in the tagging section about 'you are tagged if you are reading this'. You legitimately have to tag 11 people.

11 Things About Me:

  1. When I’m about to go to sleep, I wiggle around in my covers until they’re tucked in all around me and I’m practically in a cocoon.
  2. I’m obsessed with Doctor Who and so depressed that it’s not on right now!
  3. Of all my friends, I’m the only girl I know with a full driver’s licence. Before that, I was the only girl to have my N as well...
(In BC, we have a stupid system: you have to take a computerized test to get your “L”, which is a big red magnetic letter “L” you HAVE to stick to the back of your car, and you can only drive family and HAVE to have someone over 25 with a license to drive with you, then you take a driving test about a year later, and if you pass, you get your “N”, which is a new magnetic thing for your car. You can now drive one person, or as much family as you want, and can drive on your own. After 2 years of that, you can take ANOTHER driving test to get your full licence. Now you’re a real driver! >_<)
  4. As a little girl, I never wanted to wear anything but dresses, then around 10, I almost completely stopped wearing dresses ever, by 13 I didn’t even own a dress, and it stayed that way until I got my prom dress in grade 12. I still rarely wear dresses.
  5. I have approximately 30-35 pairs of shoes. More if you count flip-flops.
  6. I love browsing Etsy, and if I was rich, there would be tons of indie designers and artists who would benefit!
  7. As long as I can remember, I’ve wanted an old-style VW Bug. In automatic, not standard, just to be difficult.
  8. I have a GoodReads account, and on it, a list of hundreds of books that I want to read one day.
  9. I am literally addicted to caffeine, and get nastily brutal headaches if I forget to consume something with caffeine in it once a day. Like, crying, whimpering, I-hate-my-life-want-to-chop-off-my-head kinds of headaches.
  10. I have never owned a video game console. Unless you count my PC or the DS I stole from my friend when she got her DS Lite about a year ago.
  11. I actually loved the Twilight series, and feel a fierce loyalty towards them and a need to defend them, since everyone hates on them so hard these days.

Ashesela’s 11 questions:

1. What did you want to be when you grow up? (As a child :D)

I wanted to be an Olympic figure skater, then I wanted to be a nurse (then I realised they had to deal with blood and puke and needles), then I wanted to be a teacher. Later on I had better dreams. Also, somewhere in there I wanted to be an artist and a princess, but who didn’t!!

2.  What is your favourite time of the day or night?

I like night; I’m more awake when its dark out, and even though there’s less to do, it’s when I’m at my best!

3. If you could fix one thing about this world, what would it be?

Hmm, this one’s tough, because there are so many things in today’s world that need to be fixed or changed in some way. So I’m going to go for the most all-encompassing answer I can think of: equality. By making everyone more equal, you would be addressing issues of poverty and world hunger, sexism, racism, religious intoleration… all kinds of things. So yes, my one thing is I would make everyone more equal.

4. What is your favourite music?

Generally rock, though I have a very wide range of favourite artists! But then, I guess the label “rock” allows for a wide variety of styles. My favourite bands are people like: Sum41, Yellowcard, Snow Patrol, Coldplay, Marianas Trench, and the Fray. However, I also love Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and country in general.

5. If you could change into any animal (or reptile) any time you wanted to, what would it be?

Hmm… if I was a peregrin falcon, I could get around reaaaaally fast… that or a tiger… or a penguin, so I could swim.

6. What is the first thing you would do if tomorrow morning there was a zombie apocalypse? XD

Run (drive? I could steal a car…?) to my best friend’s apartment, and hope my boyfriend and other friend could get there too, since the boys I know have thought way too much about how to survive a zombie apocalypse…

7. If you could meet anyone (past or present) who would it be?

This question always takes me forever to answer, since its so fascinating… But this time I think I’ll go with Anne Boleyn. She’s so interesting! She was so brilliant, she managed to make King Henry fall so hard he overhauled the entire country’s religion just to be with her. I think she would be really awesome to meet.

8. If you had the opportunity to travel the universe with Dr. Who, would you do it?  (Also, where would you like to go first?)

Sorry, before I answer, I need to change your wording…:

“If you had thee opportunity to travel the universe with the Doctor, would you do it?”

OF COURSE I WOULD?!?! Oh my god, that would be so awesome! Travelling through space and time in the TARDIS! Seeing the Daleks, and WWII, and Cat nurses, and the weeping angels (actually, that wouldn’t be cool, I’m literally afraid of any picture of these guys)… Especially if I got to go around with 9, though I’d settle for any of his incarnations really! As for where I’d go first, that’s such a hard question! I think I’d ask him to take me somewhere amazing and trust that he would think of something I never could have known existed, because he’s the bloody Doctor!

9. What is your favourite gemstone?

Aquamarine, hands down! (My birthstone!)

10. What was your favourite class in school?

History in high school, but now its English!

11. Tell me about someone who made a huge impact on your life.

This is another question that pretty much always trips me up a bit. I would say that my boyfriend, David, has had a pretty huge impact on my life, and has been really good for me. He’s so fantastic, and he makes me a much happier person just in general. Before him I would say I was a bit of a depressed, self-conscious, almost self-hating mess, but David is very positive when it counts and he’s shown me I’m worth a lot more than I ever gave myself credit for. If that isn’t a huge impact, then I don’t know what is.

My 11 questions:

  1. If you were awarded an all-expenses-paid trip anywhere in the world, where would you most want to go?
  2. What is your favourite TV show?
  3. If you could only buy from one cosmetics company for the rest of the year, which one would you choose?
  4. What was your favourite book or story as a child?
  5. Do you have a dish or food you are especially good at making? What is it?
  6. What do you prefer: video/computer games or books?
  7. What is your favourite happy memory? (If you can’t think of one, just describe a recent good memory!)
  8. There are about a billion kinds of pizza, some way out there, some much more traditional. What is on your ideal pizza?
  9. How would you describe your clothing style? Try and describe it, don’t just say it’s unique or anything like that.
  10. What is your best life advice, or what is the best advice you’ve ever received?
  11. What one thing do you want to achieve more than anything else?

And finally, I tag:

Nerd Lacquer Polishes

Hey there, I’ve been meaning to show these to you guys for a while now. This was the final one of my Christmas presents that I received this year, about a week into January, because my friend had ordered them for me too close to Christmas to receive them earlier.

This is a set of Doctor Who inspired nail polishes from Nerd Lacquer on Etsy. They have two Doctor Who themed sets, and also one for Hitchhiker’s Guide, and I think Firefly, and a couple other random polishes. This one is my favourite though, especially the “Home of the Untempered Schism” one!

100_0244

100_0246

100_0291

And here they are swatched on my nail wheels. I did two coats of each, though I would usually layer them over another colour, or else use about three coats of the polish in order to mostly cover the nail, as they are very translucent.

As for quality, I wouldn’t say that these are the best polishes ever, not as good as OPI or Essie, but they are very cute, and unique, and aren’t too bad, either. However, they aren’t very shiny, and the texture of the bigger chunks of glitter can be a little obvious, so, at least in my experience, its best to use a couple layers of top coat, though that could just be my personal preference. They also look pretty cool underneath a matte topcoat!

I also received this cute little wind-up robot guy with my polishes, he was apparently thrown in for free. I like to pretend he’s from Silence in the Library, rather than just a generic little wind-up toy. Hehe!

100_0247

Also, just as a random aside, I wanted to brag a little bit about the current state of my nails, which have grown much longer than they have ever been before! I’m so happy with them! The only thing I can really credit, besides the motivation provided by my own, and other people’s makeup and nail blogs, is OPI’s Nail Envy, which has helped drastically in strengthening my nails.

IMAG2333

Anyways, if you want to find these polishes, or check out the other Nerd Lacquer polishes, just check them out here: Etsy.com/shop/NerdLacquer. They’re a little low on stock right now, but I’m sure they will get in more of all their polishes sometime soon. Enjoy!

Have you made any cool finds on Etsy lately? I’m completely addicted, but I try not to buy too often!

January Glymm

Hello again, my lovely readers! It’s been a while since I wrote, but I’m still trying to get into the pattern of this semester, so I hope you’ll all forgive me. Last Friday, I finally received my Glymm box! I was excited, because usually I don’t get my box until everyone else seems to have their reviews and unboxings already up, but this time I got mine first, however, I was then much too slow to get my blog post up before the others, and I’m once again quite late posting… But anyways, here’s my January Glymm Box:
IMAG2336
IMAG2337
IMAG2338I’m much too impatient to wait until after class to open my box, so I grabbed it on my way out the door, and opened it on the bus, which is why the first couple of pictures are in different lighting, and lower quality, since I didn’t have my camera with me.
100_0294
100_0296
As usual, this month’s box is all pink and girly, with the white wrapping and ribbon, and on top there are the product description card and the Try and Buy advertisement for the Glymm Beauty Boutique! Below is a picture of this month’s card, if you want to read it, as always, just click to view the image full size. I will also describe the items and give you their prices and values along with my pictures.
100_0298
100_0299
I was a little scared before I opened this month’s box up, because it felt a lot lighter than usual, but once it was opened up, it looked pretty good. It took me a little while, though, to realise what was missing. Can you figure it out?
Anastasia Clear Brow Gel:
100_0303
100_0305
100_0306
Full size: $21.00 for 0.28oz
Sample Size: 0.085oz
Approx. Value: $6.38
I know that lots of Youtubers and bloggers were happy and excited to find this product in this month’s Glymm box, but personally, I’m not all that impressed.
Apparently, Anastasia is this brand from Beverly Hills that specializes in eyebrows, and they sell this brand in Sephora, though I’ve always overlooked that relatively small section of the store as uninteresting.
Anyways, there are a couple of reasons that I am not impressed with this particular product:
  1. I think that $21 is an insane amount of money to be spending on a product that you could easily find for much cheaper in a drugstore, since this particular brow gel doesn’t do anything that one from Maybelline or Cover Girl couldn’t do.
  2. My eyebrows are pretty tame and don’t try to go off and do their own thing when not glued down to my face. I really don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone’s brows doing anything that required them to be gelled down, but maybe I haven’t been looking hard enough?
At any rate, I’ll try to find another use for this product (perhaps it would be useful for freshening up mascara, instead of adding another coat?), but otherwise, I might just give it to my sister, as it isn’t really useful to me.
Kaia Naturals Juicy Bamboo Facial Cleansing Cloths:
100_0300
100_0301
Full size: $17.99 for 30 cloths
Sample size: 1 cloth
Approx. Value: $0.60
Although I do wish that Glymm had given us a couple of cloths, rather than just the one to try, I’m much happier about this product than the brow gel. I personally love facial cleansing cloths, since I often skip washing my face at night because I hate having to mess around with cleanser and water right before bed, and I am much more likely to take off my makeup if all I have to do is pull out a cloth, wipe my face, and be done with it.
These particular cloths are made from bamboo, are biodegradable (as it says on the front of the package, though I’m guessing the package itself will fill up landfills just like most packaging does), and are supposed to be soaked in vitamins and natural ingredients. They are also cruelty free, which is awesome. I haven’t tried this yet, but I’ve seen good reviews from other bloggers, and they are supposed to be great at getting rid of makeup.
Burt’s Bees Nourishing Milk and Honey Body Lotion:
100_0307
100_0308
Full size: $12.99 for 170g
Sample size: .23oz each (or 13g total)
Approx. value: $0.99
I’m really glad we got two of these samples, since they are so small. I also like that this product isn’t super expensive. This lotion, which I used only as a hand lotion, since I don’t generally use body lotions, is very natural, and I was pleased to find that, while reading the ingredients list, I recognized almost every ingredient. Burt’s Bees is also cruelty free, and, if I deciphered the symbols correctly, the packaging on this product is made from recycled materials, and also recyclable. Although the scent isn’t really anything special, I do really like this as a hand lotion, as its very nourishing and soaks in really quickly without leaving my hands feeling greasy. I might even go out and purchase this product, though I do already have several hand lotions.
Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator:
100_0313
100_0314
Full size: $34.00 for 120ml
Sample size: 12g
Approx. value: $3.40
I haven’t tried this yet, but I am looking forward to trying it out, though I probably wouldn’t buy this product even if I do like it. First of all, I haven’t found Vasanti sold anywhere near where I live, even though it seems that its sold at all the Shopper’s Drug Marts in Eastern Canada. Unfortunately in this case, however, I live in Western Canada. Also, $34 seems like a lot to be spending on this sort of product, but that’s just my opinion, and also the opinion of my bank account. This product does smell pretty good, though, and it is a sort of cleanser, as well as an exfoliator, which is why it isn’t for daily use.
Cargo Eye Pencil in Black:
100_0309
100_0310
100_0312
Full size: $16.00 for 2g
Sample size: Full Sized product.
Approx. value: $16.00
I like this liner pencil, even though its nothing interesting, just a simple black pencil. It stays pretty well, and isn’t too hard to put on, but not nearly as nice as my Urban Decay pencils. Still, it’s hard to complain about a free, full-sized black liner, even if it isn’t something I would purchase on my own.
And finally…
100_0315
100_0317
In this month’s box, unfortunately, there were no jelly beans!! I, along with everyone else, was really disappointed to find this out, and I really hope that they find a way to start including them again. I understand, though, why they’ve stopped. Apparently the little glass jars they were sending them in were breaking in the mail. But even so, I missed them, since, even though you didn’t know if you would like anything in the box, you knew there would be jelly beans.
Anyways, in this month’s box, there was a little card with a code for a Free RMD Lip Shine with any purchase. I thought this was awesome at first, because I hadn’t yet used by $10 off code from last month, and my plan was to use that and my 200 points to get a couple of Butter London polishes, and I thought I would be able to also add this to my order. However, what I didn’t think of would be that Glymm only allows one promo code per order. So, unfortunately, I didn’t bother using this. Still, its a good deal if you’re already planning to make an order.
So, that was this month’s box. From what I’ve seen, everyone got pretty much the same products, but if you got something different, tell me what it was. Also, I have a few more posts that I need to get through that should be up throughout this next week, so keep checking back. Thanks for reading!

Barbie Doll’d Up Nails?!

Hey everyone, so I was cruising reddit, and in a comment I discovered one of THE coolest things I have ever seen! It’s a Barbie product (is anyone surprised?) by Mattel, called “Doll’d Up Nails”… I can’t describe it any better than the commercial, so just watch this video first:

Now, just for a minute, let’s ignore how they completely ripped off Aqua’s “Barbie Girl” tune, and focus on just how cool this is! It’s a printer that prints ANYTHING YOU WANT on your nails!

I mean, the downside is that it looks like it costs about $150 bucks online… so I’d probably never buy it, but if it was $50 bucks or less, I would seriously consider it, just for the novelty! Never mind trying to recreate TARDISes, Van Gogh paintings, or Pokémon on your nails, this would literally print it on perfectly for you!

Am I way too excited? This has apparently been around for a couple years now, but I thought it was super cool and I had never seen it before, so I wanted to share my find with you guys in case you were just as in the dark as I was.

Now, I just have to ask, if you had this nail printer, what would be the first thing you’d put on your nails?

Cute Blog Award

Hey everyone, so a couple days ago I got a comment from Ashesela of Art Evolve telling me that she had awarded me this cute blog award and linked me to her post!

For this award you:
1. Link back to the person who awarded you
2. Answer the award questions
3. Tell something about yourself that you haven't told anyone on your blog yet
4. Award as many blogs as you think are worthy of this award
5. Make sure to let those you gave this award to know that you awarded them.

I already linked to her blog above, so let’s move onto the questions shall we?

The Award Questions:

1. What is your go to makeup product?
- Mascara! I can do without everything else if necessary, but I can’t leave the house without good ol’ black mascara… not with my shiny gold/blonde lashes…

2. What was your favourite fashion trend of 2011?
- Hard to say… I don’t usually pay to much attention to fashion trends, since I tend to do my own thing…

3. What is your favourite dessert?
- Ice cream or cookies… or… ice cream AND cookies!!

4. Favourite color?
- Black or neon green

5. What is your middle name?
- Leanne

6. What was the last song that you listened to?
- Christmas Lights by Coldplay (I know its not Christmas anymore, but its a really cute song)

7. Cats or dogs?
- Dogs! But I love my kitty too.

Something about myself that you don't know:
- I got my first (pretty ghetto) makeup kit in grade 4. It came in a little purple glittery plastic lunchbox which contained a couple of glitter gels, 2 lip glosses, 3 lipsticks (neon pink, purple, and light blue O_o), 4 eye shadows (light and dark purple, and light and dark green), a glitter body spray, and a lip pencil that didn’t match any of the lipsticks, and which I think I usually used to draw tattoos on my arms and legs… >_>

And for the blogs I want to tag:

I’m excluding some of the bigger blogs I follow, since this seems like it would be a little silly >_<…

Nail Wheels (and a decision)

Hello, my beautiful readers! If you’ve been following for any length of time, you may had noticed my mention of the nail wheels that I ordered about a month and a half ago on eBay… well, I finally got them at the end of last week, and I thought I’d show you how they’re looking now…

100_0277

The ones I bought came as a pack of ten wheels, each with room for 18 swatches… however, what I realized is that, despite my collection being able to completely fill a mid-sized Sephora bag, I actually don’t have all that many polishes. In the end, it turns out I have 42 polishes… though I remembered earlier that I have one polish that for some reason or another wasn't living with the rest, so I’ll have to swatch that one too at some point.

Anyways, I made a list of all the polishes in a Word document (because I’m cool), and I organized the colours into four categories: one is reds, oranges, and pinks, one is greens, blues, and purples, another is glitters, and the fourth is blacks, greys, and whites. Finally, I decided to do two coats for each of the polishes, except for the crackles, and the glitters, since I often use them as topcoats, so those I just swatched one coat of.

Also, as I mentioned in the title, I’ve made a decision… almost like a deal with myself. I’ve decided that if I can manage not to purchase any cosmetics items until the end of January, I can buy myself Urban Decay’s Naked Palette in February! I’ve looked into it, and it’s a pretty good deal, considering somewhat neutral shadows are what I tend to turn to most often, the shadows in the palette are almost full-size, and a full size single shadow from UD is $20 at Sephora… when you look at it like that, even if there is a shadow or two that I might not use, $58 for the Naked Palette doesn’t look like such a bad deal.

Ideally, though, after spending $65 (after taxes) on eye shadow, I also would try to avoid buying makeup in February… although maybe I’ll allow a nail polish purchase or two in February…

December Favourites

As promised in my November Favourites post, I’m going to try to keep this one a little shorter, though that shouldn’t be too hard, because my favourite products don’t usually change too much month to month.

1. Glitter polishes:

I’ve got a bunch, some new, some old, and I wore them almost all month. It might be because of Christmas, but no matter the reason, here are the glitter polishes I’ve been loving this past month:

100_0256

  1. a gold glitter polish by Fascino (which is a brand I’ve only ever seen at a mini kiosk in Richmond Centre mall) called only #65
  2. Yara by Zoya, which is almost a military green, but with beautiful gold shimmer. Not sure it counts as a glitter polish, but it is really sparkly!
  3. Silver by Billie Cosmetics, which is a cheap, low quality dollar store brand, but a great colour for layering.
  4. a bronze glitter, also by Fascino, this one is #66

    100_0251
  5. Star Light by L.A. Colors, a holographic glitter which I’m absolutely in love with, even though the quality isn’t great. It can make any manicure which is looking a little dull look completely fresh!
  6. It’s Bouquet With Me by Sephora by OPI, which is a purple and holographic glitter polish, which could only be better if it had a slightly more opaque base colour
  7. and a chunky black and silver glitter from Fascino (they were 3 for $10 when I bought them), #68

2. Bath and Body Works hand sanitizers:

IMAG2249From Left to right: Apple Wreath, Chocolate Chunk Cookie, Caribbean Escape, Blue Raspberry, Vanilla Sprinkle Cookie, Island Margarita, Angel Cookie, Winter Cranberry.

I meant not to repost things that I mentioned last month, but this is a little different. Free $5 coupons to Bath and Body Works were being given out a few weeks ago in front of La Senza at Richmond Centre mall, and coincidentally, sanitizers were on sale for 8 for $5! So, for only a penny, I walked away with a BUNCH of lovely smelling sanitizers.

3. Sephora shadow in Aspen Summit:

100_0258

This little shadow came in the birthday gift from Sephora in 2010, but I didn’t really start using it until recently. It’s just a simple white shimmer powder, and  I’ve really been liking it lately as a highlight just under the arches of my eyebrows and at the inner corners of my eyes. It also looks really cool if you use it from the lash to crease, and then use Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Deviant along the lash line.

4. Clinique Acne Solutions products (technically #4-6):

100_0262

I have the Clinique Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion, Clearing Concealer in Shade 01, and the Spot Treatment Gel. I absolutely love this line, all of the products work really well. The toner isn’t too drying, and also has a powder in it (that you have to make sure is mixed in before you use it), which is supposed to help absorb oil and decrease shininess.

The concealer is wonderful, because I always feel bad putting makeup on zits, since I know it will only make them worse. Instead, this product helps to cover up at the same time that its trying to get rid of acne. Best of both worlds!

The Spot Treatment gel is great for using at night, or on any little bumps which aren’t red and don’t need covering. I’m also pretty sure it is a little more affective than the concealer, since it’s only job is to fight zits, and doesn’t contain makeup.

The active ingredient in all three products is salicylic acid, which I find works a lot better on my skin than benzoyl peroxide. Both the spot treatment and the concealer are 1% salicylic acid, while the toner contains 1.5%. While these are pricier than Clean and Clear or Clearasil, I personally think its worth the extra money, as the Clinique tends to work a lot better for me.

7. Ole Henriksen Truth to Go Wipes

100_0263

My final product for the month are these Ole Henriksen Truth to go Wipes. You might notice that my package is looking a little battered, but that is because these are about half gone, and I’ve also taken them with me on a few occasions where I was sleeping the night not at home. These are great, for travel or for home, because they are for all skin types, gentle, moisturizing (as it says on the package), and also remove makeup really easily. And as a bonus, they smell great! I love these for all those reasons, plus, I can be really lazy when it comes to washing my makeup off at night, so if, instead of going to the washroom, and using makeup remover,  face wash and water, I can just scrub my face with one of these cloths, then I am way more likely to do the job.

One downside is these are a little expensive for what they are. I’m not sure if I will repurchase them when I use up the rest of mine, because they cost (if I remember correctly) about $17 here in Canada, and you only get 30 wipes. One cheap, but not as awesome alternative are the Balea 3 in 1 cleansing cloths from Shoppers Drug Mart, which are about $10 and you get 60 wipes. They definitely get the job done when it comes to makeup removal, but they do lack the great scent and the anti-aging promise of the Ole Henriksen wipes.

So what were your favourite things last month? Let me know!

Rainbow Eyes

Hey! I hope everyone had a great New Years! I thought I’d do a quick post to show you my take on the rainbow eye shadow look that I’ve seen in a few places lately. I wasn’t sure I had all the colours, but I had close in my big ELF palate:

IMAG2290

Not super bright, and not all of them as the perfect colours, but I thought they looked pretty cool, so, in order to give them a little more colour, I layered them over my ELF mineral eye shadow primer. This is my final result
