Two Tags “40 Beauty Questions” and “Hunger Games”

So, I found both of these tags on GretalRabbit Writes, and I’m posting them together, because technically the Hunger Games one isn’t relevant to my blog, but I love surveys and wanted to do it anyways!

40 Beauty Questions:

1) How many times do you wash your face daily?
Once at night if I remember… I’m really bad…

2) What skin type do you have?
Combination; usually greasy chin and forehead and dry cheeks and nose.

3) What is your current facial wash?
Sephora Supreme Cleansing Foam. Or the Ole Henriksen Turth to Go face wipes if I’m lazy…

4) Do you exfoliate?
Sometimes. Usually just with a little sample product from a Glymm box, or I’ll count lightly scrubbing my face with a washcloth. Though I also like to use my mom’s St. Ives apricot face scrub sometimes.

5) What moisturiser do you use?
Aside from testing out various samples, my usual is the Sephora Instant Moisturizer.

6) Do you have freckles?
Nope!

7) Do you use an eye cream?
Not usually, again, I just try out samples.

8) Do you or did you have acne prone skin?
I do. My chin especially is bad.

9) Did you ever have to use Proactiv?
Nope. Never tried it

10) What foundation do you use?
When I use foundation, I have my Lancôme Colour Ideal foundation. However, I’m also quickly falling in love with the M.Asam Magic Fini from this last Glymm box. It blends really beautifully and stays on all day!

11) How about concealer?
I don’t like using concealers on zits, and I have nothing else to use them for, so the only one I have is the Clinique Acne Solutions clearing concealer.

12) Do you know your undertone colour?
I think I must be warm toned.. I’m very pink

13) What do you think of false eyelashes?
I love them, but they are so hard to put on, I think.

14) Did you know that you are supposed to change your mascara every 3 months?
Yeah, I know… I don’t bother with that, I just use my mascara until its done, but I do know that fact. I’ve also read that that isn’t important and as long as it doesn’t smell funky its fine to use!

15) What brand of mascara do you use?
I'm currently using 17 Va Va Voom mascara- I can't decide yet if I'll repurchase or pick out a new mascara; I love this one but I don't know if there's anything better out there :p

16) Sephora or MAC?
SEPHORA!!

17) Do you have a MAC Pro Card?
No, I don’t like MAC and only own one liquid liner from there.

18) What makeup tools do you use in makeup application?
Fingers mostly, but I have a few regular ELF shadow brushes, an ELF Mineral Blending Brush that I use for blush, and my ELF Studio Complexion Brush for powder. I also have eyelash curlers, and the shadow brush out of the Naked Palette.

19) Do you use an eye primer?
Yeah, when I want or need to make sure my shadow stays on all night. I have the ELF mineral one, which I rarely ever use, and the mini Urban Decay Primer Potion which I love.

20) Do you use a face primer?
No, I’ve never used one.

21) What's your favourite eyeshadow?
That’s pretty tough, but I guess for a good, everyday colour, I really like the Urban Decay Sin.

22) Liquid or pencil eyeliner?
Pencil, by far! I couldn’t live without my UD 24/7 Zero pencil!

23) How often do you poke yourself in the eye with eyeliner?
Pretty much never, actually. I have a bit of a phobia about stuff in my eye, so I’m pretty good.

24) What do you think of mineral pigments?
I’ve never tried them.

25) Do you use mineral makeup?
Yeah, I mean, I don’t search it out, but my powders usually end up being mineral, like my current: Sephora Mineral Foundation Compact.

26) What is your favourite lipstick?
I’m not a big lipstick person, so this is a little difficult. If we pretend I own it: NARS Roman Holiday… but I don’t think I could ever bring myself to spend $29 on lippy.

27) How about lip gloss?
Again, not really my thing. If we pretend lip balm is gloss, the I guess the Fresh non-tinted one?

29) Do you buy your makeup on eBay?
No, that scares me a little

30) Do you like drugstore makeup?
Yeah, its alright. I prefer to purchase my lipsticks, glosses, and mascaras from the drugstore, at any rate. Mascaras because all brands seem too similar, and lip stuff because it always comes off so fast!

31) Do you go to CCO’s (Cosmetic Company Outlets)?
I don’t even know what that is!

32) Did you ever consider taking makeup classes?
No, I have too much fun playing with it myself!

33) Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
Not really… maybe with liquid liner, but I’m usually pretty good.

34) What's your make up pet peeve?
-Lining the bottom lashes but not the waterline
-wearing the wrong colour foundation
-not blending foundation
-blush as a block
-any other lacking of blending…

35) Do you like colourful shades of makeup (lipstick, eyeshadow) or neutral ones?
Both! Natural is easier for day to day, but its so much fun to play with colours!

36) Which celebrity always has great makeup?
I don’t know really. Olivia Wilde, not that she wears a ton, but she always looks fantastic. Also, maybe Blake Lively? Probably Anne Hathaway… I honestly don’t pay that much attention to makeup on celebrities.

37) If you could leave the house using just ONE makeup item, what would you use?
Mascara! Its a must with my blonde lashes…

38) Could you ever leave the house without any makeup on? Do you think you look good even without makeup on?
No, I don’t leave without at least mascara. Preferably more if I’m doing anything besides class and the gym.

39) In your opinion, what is the BEST makeup line?
I have to pick Urban Decay. I own so much UD, and I want even more!

40) What do you think of makeup?
I love it, can’t you tell? =)

Hunger Games Tag:

I WILL BE POSTING SPOILERS TO ALL THREE BOOKS

Now onto the questions:

1) What is your favourite book in The Hunger Games trilogy?
Hard to say. I have to love the first for starting it all, for laying the groundwork and explaining how this dystopian world functions. However, the second book, Catching Fire, just expands so much. You thought that the first was emotional, but in Catching Fire you dive even more deeply into the lives and emotions of the characters and really get to know them like you hadn’t before! Then there’s the final one, where it all gets worked out. It isn’t my favourite, because like Harry Potter was weird without Quidditch, the Hunger Games is a little lacking, to me, without a Hunger Games… but there is lots of action and emotion otherwise to keep someone occupied. I think my favourite is probably the second one, then. Because you’re right in the middle of everything.

2) How long would you last in the games?
Probably not very long. I’m not mean, and I have big issues with violence (its like I get phantom pains wherever a character gets injured in a movie, I just can’t see it without feeling it…). However, I also think that if threatened, I might get meaner. Plus, I wouldn’t be trying to hold back. But I wouldn’t be one of the people who hunts the others down. I’d be the one running and hiding.

3) What the strangest thing you thought would happen in the book, but didn't?
…I was scared Katniss would end up with Gale….
I thought maybe Peeta would be lost forever…
I thought maybe Katniss would take over for President Snow…
Lots really, but I didn’t think they’d bloody kill Prim… >_<

4) How were you introduced to The Hunger Games?
My sister. She was SO IN LOVE with these books. It sounded ok, but my best friend hadn’t loved them (wtf?!), but my sister insisted that I see the movie with her when it came out, and also that I would read the books before seeing the movie… so it was not really an option =P

5) What's your favourite moment in the books?
Hard to say, really… there’s so much pain and sadness… I loved that she killed Coin. I loved Peeta, but not at first. I liked finally finding out how Haymitch had won. I adored the prep team. And I loved when Katniss outsmarted them all and saved Peeta and herself!

6) Who is your favourite villain?
I don’t know… I don’t think I have one, particularly… the villains are honestly scary in this one… Do the other contestants count? Maybe Foxface, then, for being so clever.

7) Who is your favourite character?
Prim. Peeta. I have to admit I hated Katniss at first, but I grew to respect, if not love her. I can’t relate to her, since she’s so so different from me. Oh, and Finnick. And Beetee. And Rue…

8) What district would you live in?
I think I’d be good in District 3 (technology), possibly 8 (textiles).

9) What was the most emotional moment for you?
Oh god, this series had me crying pathetically, and it would have been worse if I’d read it only at home! When Katniss volunteered for Prim, when Rue died, when Gale almost said I love you but had to leave her after the reaping, when Peeta found out Katniss had been acting. When I though Gale was dead in Catching Fire for hunting. When Prim died. When the cat showed up and Katniss yelled and yelled until she realised it wasn’t leaving. When peeta was brainwashed and almost killed Katniss. so so so many times…

10) What item from home would you bring into the arena with you?
Probably the necklace my bf bought me, since it would be easy to carry and hard to lose.

11) What was the most evil plan in the books?
Definitely the rules of the Quarter Quell in book 2…

12) What are you looking forward to most in the films?
Everything. Just seeing it. Seeing how the movie makers envisioned it. The capitol. The clothes. The drama. Everything.

March Favourites

Alright, I want to get this up before the end of the first week, so although I have some more posts waiting to go up, but I thought I’d push this one to the front. So, what were my favourite products in March?

  1. China Glaze Hunger Games polishes, especially Harvest Moon.

    100_0863

    100_0864
  2. Feather extensions (From my March Glymm box)

    100_0783
  3. M.Asam Magic Fini

    100_0866
  4. Sephora Mineral Foundation Compact

    100_0865

As for my non-cosmetic favourites, I guess I’d have to say:

  1. Reading on the bus… I’ve read so much more this year, because I’ve made a point of almost always reading while I'm on the bus to and from school everyday!
  2. I had to find a way to work it in, so: my new Hunger Games pin!!

    100_0870

I’m also finally going to see the movie Monday, and I am stupidly excited…!
  3. My most recent diary/journal.

    100_0871

Not sure if its because I’ve learned to write not only when I’m upset, or because this notebook looks so sophisticated that it begs you to write in it, but I’ve been pulling it out more than my last one, just to jot down ideas or little reminders of stuff that’s happened and I want to remember. Also, the very cute French pen I got to go with it:

    100_0872

Also, just wanted to mention a recent product I’ve been lusting over just a little: the NARS lipstick in Roman Holiday.

57913545177715654bZkklt4Cc

I think I described it well to my mom earlier when I called it a “neutral Barbie pink,” since it manages to have both the brightness of Barbie and the softness of a neutral. I’m bloody in love, but its $29 at Sephora. However, my aunt says she can try to find it for cheap on eBay, which I would be very happy about if she did!

What were your favourites last month?

Birthday Haul

Hello again everyone! I’m back, and, almost a week later, I’m finally going to show you all what I got for my birthday this year!

Let’s start with what I got for free from various companies:

  • Fresh Lipgloss mini duo from Sephora. I really love these glosses, they smell exactly like a lemon sucker! Much better than last year’s cake scented body wash.
  • A burger from Red Robin
  • Pasta at Boston Pizza
  • Ice cream cone from Marble Slab Creamery
  • Free regular sized smoothie at Booster Juice
  • Also 20% off one item at Bootlegger, which I used to get a hoodie.

I’m also supposed to receive a card for a free drink, whatever I want, from Starbucks, but for some reason it hasn’t arrived yet. I contacted them this afternoon, but haven’t heard back yet.

On my actual birthday, I stay home with my family, and I didn’t get anything super exciting, but that’s because we usually save the best presents for Christmas. Anyways, I did get:

100_0851

  • Two shirts. Basically t-shirts, but sort of loose, floaty ones to wear with a belt.
  • Pizza Pringles!
  • A big pack of Sour Cherry Blasters
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2
  • A couple of headbands, with little rubber grips so they stay in better

They were also supposed to take me to see the Hunger Games, but it’s sort of been put off. However, if they aren’t going to take me soon, I’m gonna go on my own, because I think I’ve waited long enough!!

My best friend and I have gotten each other Starbucks drinks as birthday gifts since the time when we only had a few bucks to spend (and Starbucks was an awesome gift to a 14 year old). This year, she got me a Grande Caramel Frappuccino, as well as surprising me with the People Magazine special Hunger Games collector issue:

IMAG2461

Finally, and I saved the best for last, here, are the presents I got from my boyfriend. This year, he got me:100_0852

100_0854

  • A long, fancy black skirt
  • the Mockingjay pin
  • and, best of all, a big bottle (50 ml) of the Chloe Eau de Parfum that I had been dying for!

He also bought the ice cream cake for my party with my friends:

100_0843

And there was much pizza eating and Rockband playing. Also, a failed attempt at making Butterbeer. I don’t know if the recipe is any good, but it was destroyed by the fact that we went for a cheaper bottle of cream soda, which was randomly BUBBLEGUM flavour, instead of vanilla! Who has ever heard of bubblegum cream soda? So that was a little disappointing, but it was a good night!

Thanks for reading! <3

Hunger Games -- Colours of the Capitol by China Glaze Polish Haul and Swatches!

Alright, I’m finally going to show off and brag about these beautiful polishes! I got these on the 16th, and that’s what I want to talk about first.

First of all, the site I bought them at said that they wouldn’t ship until the 21st, but they actually shipped the very next day after I bought them, and I was really surprised when I checked my tracking number and noticed that they were already in Richmond, which is generally the last place Canada Post registers the day before it arrives at my house, and beside that CP estimated it would arrive on the 16th, which it did! I was shocked so I did a little searching on their site and found out it was so quick because NailPolishCanada.com ships from Vancouver! So I was really pleased, and I absolutely recommend them to anyone on the West Coast of Canada, since you don’t pay any customs or duties since its a Canadian company, fast shipping, and shipping is either $5 or free if you spend more than $29, which really isn’t hard.

Anyways, on to the polishes! I got:

100_0753From right to left: Fast Track (District 6), Stone Cold (District 2), Harvest Moon (District 9), and Smoke and Ashes (District 12).

100_0754

100_0755

100_0756

100_0757

And, since it’s my absolute favourite, I wanted to try and show off the glitter in Smoke and Ashes, which is so bloody hard to photograph:

100_0758

And nail wheel swatches! Fast Track and Harvest Moon, both two coats:

100_0762

I’m completely in love with Harvest Moon, which is on my toes right now, and Fast Track looks like a perfect match for my skin! I can’t wait to try out the gold glittery mannequin hands this will surely give me! I’ve also seen swatches on other blogs where Fast Track makes a great glittery top coat.

Smoke and Ashes and Stone Cold, also both two coats:

100_0764

These two are completely opaque with two coats, and about the same opacity as my other polishes are with two coats after only one! Stone Cold is beautiful, and I am currently in love with Smoke and Ashes, which is on my fingers now, and has been since the 17th!

The glitter doesn’t show up well in any of these pictures, but I swear it’s there in the sun! Sorry about the messy cuticles, I was a little too excited to get pictures…

100_0765

100_0771

100_0773

Finally, I wanted to include this picture to show you the colours in the glitter, since the unfocused light picks it up a lot better for the camera:

100_0767

Have you tried any of the Hunger Games polishes? Dying to get your hands on some? Too excited to express about the movie about to come out? I want to hear about it!

Thanks for reading! <3

February Favourites!

I know we’re already a whole week into March, but that’s why I’m making sure I get my favourites up now before it gets even later!

  1. Urban Decay Naked Palette:

    100_0375
This was definitely my favourite product this month, even if it almost counts as cheating, since it is in fact several products! I’m so glad I finally bought this, as I have had so much fun playing around with these colours. My absolute favourites are probably Sin, for being so wearable, and Half-baked, for being beautifully pigmented and just gorgeous.

For a while I was taking pictures of most of the looks I did with this palette, so below are two of my favourites:

    100_0405

    100_0471
  2. Seche Vite:

    100_0631
I wouldn’t say that this is a necessary product for anyone, but it is pretty brilliant! If you are the type who, like me, gets really impatient waiting for her finished manicure to dry before she can do other things, then this is a fantastic topcoat! It dries very quickly and is very shiny when it dries. It was a little pricey, but since you only use it one coat at a time, it should last a good deal longer than a regular polish.

One thing to point out, though, is I’ve heard complaints about this polish from people who experienced shrinkage with Seche Vite. I didn’t but perhaps that is because I paint all the way to the cuticle (and usually over >_<) before cleaning up, whereas others like to leave a small space between the cuticle and the start of the polish. However, if you are like me, I definitely suggest trying this one out if you can handle the price (this cost me about $14).
  3. Urban Decay Primer Potion:

    100_0361[5]
This is just the little one that came with the Naked Palette, but I’m completely in love with it! I have tried the ELF mineral primer, but it didn’t do too much. This one is fantastic, and makes my shadow last all day!
  4. Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Perversion:

    100_0601
This liner is even blacker than the colour Zero, which used to be UD’s only black liner. I haven’t used this too much, because I only just bought a new Zero pencil just before this came out, but I love using it when I want to look really good. Its basically the same fantastic formula is super-black!
  5. Chloe Eau de Parfum:chloe-2008-eau-de-parfum-spray-50ml
So for this one I’m showing you a picture of the actual full-sized bottle because all I actually own is the tiny little sample bottle that I got in my one and only Luxe Box (I think in September, though it might have been October.)

I’m completely in love with this scent, though I’ve been hesitating to purchase it because a) it’s way more than I usually spend on perfume, and b) because it contains rose, to which my mom is allergic. However, I have been wearing this perfume for a while, and as long as I don’t put in on if I’m going to be spending time with her, I’m sure it would be fine!

So those were my cosmetic favourites, and now below are my other favourites for February!

  1. The Big Bang Theory:

    the-big-bang-theory-17-5-10-kc
I’ve watched this on and off when it was on TV for a while, but a little while ago, I decided to get the episodes and watch through them from beginning to end, and I have to admit I’m completely addicted! I’m completely in love with all of the characters (except for Howard and Leslie Winkle). I’m currently just finishing up season two.

Honestly, this is a major reason why it’s taken me so long to get around to this post and my February Glymm box post. But I have to try to be better; it’s so tempting to just curl up with tea and Big Bang, but I have homework to do, reading to finish, and I have to get my room clean if I ever want to bring home my beautiful new computer that my boyfriend helped me build!
  2. Hunger Games Trilogy:

    The Hunger Games Trilogy
I know I mentioned this last month as well, but I had only read the first book then and was waiting on the library or for my ordered copies to come in the mail. They came (on three consecutive days, in separate packages) middle of February, and I finished the last two in a couple days each. I’m so completely in love with these books that I’m really sad there were only three of them! I’m also so excited for the movies and I’m dying to find myself a Mockingjay pin!

  3. Pringles:fdc38-Pringles_Original
I have a weakness. >_< Especially the Original flavoured ones. Not sure why I’ve been so in love with them the last little while, but I have been.
  4. My Camera:

    100_0436

The above is a panoramic picture taken with one of my camera’s awesome settings, which allows you to take three pictures that the camera then stitches together for you! Also, almost all of the pictures that I post on here now are taken with my camera (that I got for Christmas), and I love how good quality they are!

January Favourites!

I somehow managed to forget for this long that it was actually February, and that I need to get on it if I’m planning to do a favourites post for January (which I obviously am)! But I’m here now, so let’s get started.
As I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, my staple favourites don’t change too often, but there’s always one or two things every month. I will point out that this month may be a bit shorter than other months because I had forbidden myself from getting any new products during the month if I wanted to get the Naked palette in February, and I managed to stick to that. That said, here are January’s favourites:
  1. Nars Blush in Orgasm:
100_0450I got this for Christmas, after wanting it for a good month or two. I was really happy that I didn’t have to spend $30 to try this out, but after using it for a little over a month, I’m completely in love!

The colour is very pretty and soft, if you don’t use too much, and if you want a more intense look, it’s also quite buildable. It doesn’t even bother me that it’s shimmery, like I thought it might, because its pretty subtle in a thin layer. If you want to see my swatch go here.

  2. Revlon Eyelash Curler:
    100_0455
While I said I couldn’t by any makeup during January, I figured tools aren’t the same as makeup, and I really needed a new curler, since my old one kept falling apart. The top, aka the part that presses down on your lashes into the rubber pad, kept popping off the arms, and I eventually lost it. I replaced it with this Revlon one, which is supposed to be “super curling” something to that effect. I’m not sure I see that much of a difference between it and my old one, but I do like the black and red/pink colouring, as well as the soft handle grips.

  3. Burt’s Bees Nourishing Milk & Honey Body Lotion:
100_0458 This is the second of the samples that I got in my January Glymm box, but I’m really in love with this lotion. I’m about 87% sure that I’ll repurchase the full-size of this product sometime in the near future.

If you missed my description from my Glymm post, this lotion is very moisturizing, and has a soft, sweet smell, not too strong, like a lot of my other favourite lotions, so it’s nice to have as a change. It’s also made almost entirely from natural ingredients, which is nice, if not all that important to me.

  4. Jason Vitamin E Age Renewal Moisturizing Crème:
    100_0459
This cream, which I don’t use for anti-aging effects, is super moisturizing and very soothing. Its great for very dry skin, and I’ve also used it on my lips for extra hydration, since they tend to get extremely chapped when I’m sick, which I was for a large part of January… which brings me to my next favourite for the month…

    (A couple non-cosmetic related favourites:)

  5. Vitamin C and Buckley’s Complete Liquid Gels:
    100_0462
When I’m sick, I tend to load myself up on Vitamin C supplements whenever I take my other medicine, just for a boost. Also, these Buckley’s pills are fantastic! They are probably the best cold medication I’ve found, as they do almost everything. Plus, since they are in pill form, rather than liquid form, they don’t taste like anything!

  6. Nongshim Bowl Noodle Soup in Kimchi:
    100_0466
I am so addicted to these it’s insane. At least I chose something cheap to be addicted to, though! These are only about 90 cents, as long as I buy them from a supermarket, preferably an Asian supermarket, which there are plenty of in my area. These are really spicy, and soooooo good, but also so bad for you! They are full of empty calories, and pretty much nothing good for you. But since when are addictions healthy?

  7. Hunger Games:

    tumblr_lt18cmDTz51qf9n62o1_500

My final favourite for this month is Suzanne Collins’s book “The Hunger Games,” and I am currently waiting on either my holds at the library, or my order to come in. The covers shown above are the ones that I ordered from abebooks.com, and are the Adult British softcover versions. I like them even more than the American covers, and way more than the children/teen British versions. They’re shipping (for free!) from the UK, so it will probably be 2 weeks before they get here. I’m so excited to read the second two books, and also to see the movie when it comes out in March. I’m really glad my little sister forced me to read this series!
So, what were your favourites last month? Any comments on any of my picks? Let me know what you think!
